BTW : Installing Linux on the A1SE isn't that easy. At the moment the system isn't made bootable automatically, so you have to do this manually before you reboot the installer. It may be better to keep the PReP boot method for know (as you are already using it with YDL), as the slb_v2 seems to have problems to recognize newer ext2/3 partitions.
Let me know, if you run into problem! I'm sure there will be some... |
ah, I'm used to problems, I am an Amiga use since 1988, so...(actually in the beginning there where really less problems and freezes) yesterday I burned the Hypex boot cd, just to give a try. It starts, menu, then loading of kernel, but then it stops I can't say where, something regarding hda, today I'll take a photo. But at which point should I insert the Debian cd 1?
for the pci cards, I will check, actually being able to use the PCI next to AGP it would be very useful. in the while I am waiting for a new VIA USB card, just to see whether it works better then the NEC, with the ohci driver, or not
yesterday I found out that ydl3 automatic partitioning makes only 2 partitions, SWAP and the main, instead the instructions think one has partitioned manually making 4 partitions, so I'll give another try |

Did you disable DMA on the bootloader screen (with the "D" key)?
There is a problem with the sil311x SATA controller and some Seagate SATA harddisks, for which the slow_down parameter of the sata_sil driver should be set to "1". However I'm afraid that this is not yet possible with Hypex' install CD.

The installer should prompt you to insert a Debian CD.

There are some users that have problems with VIA USB cards. NEC cards still seem to be the better solution._________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB

Actually, some people have had some success with certain VIA USB controller chipsets and some (such as myself) have not. A lot depend on the version of the chip itself.

FWIW an A1SE can work in USB1.x mode under OS4.1 and a USB2 card.
Also my installer is made to use on an Amiga RDB volume. So if you have an RDB formatted HD with SLB installed then it can install a working Linux bootable at startup from a menu.
After the installer CD loads installer image into memory, it will boot it and then load a kernel package off the CD. At this point it will look for the main Debian CD. This is when to swap.
You can also wait till it tells you it can't find the Debian CD. You can then swap. And press retry.
If you have two drives it's much easier. |

Yes, but AFAIK you can only use low speed devices like an USB mouse or keyboard. Mass storage devices won't work._________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB

I've seen MSD like flash drives work. But of course only in USB 1.x mode. This was Update 1 or some earlier release before we got USB2 support. |

Interesting! I wonder, if this worked only on an A1SE with this special GAL fix..._________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB
