| Woah!!! Are you kidding me!!! This would produce the fastest Amiga conceivable!!!
Yellow Dog Linux Power Workstation with 4 PPC cores
Features: Quad-core 2.5GHz IBM 970MP CPUs with native 32/64-bit processing. Single 70GB SAS drive. Up to 4 SAS drives. 2 GB RAM. Up to 32 GB RAM. ATI X1650 Pro graphics card. Dual Gigabit ethernet. 4 USB ports. 2 RS232; 1 console-only (VTY) serial via RJ45 connector. DVD/CD-RW. Yellow Dog Linux pre-installed. Deskside tower chassis with easy access to all interior components.
Yours for $1895.00 (Twice the price of a SAM for 10+ times the speed?)
If you are still reeling it currently runs Yellow Dog Linux, so it's drivers are obviously all open source.
Your dream Amiga workstation awaits!!!
Quad-core PowerPC workstation runs Linux
Edit 2: Man, even if AmigaOS ran on one core initially it would be worth it. This is a full on server computer worthy of the Amiga name. You could probably get Terrasoft to change the graphics card for OS compatability. If I was Hyperion I would be right on this.
Edit: Pictures...

Seeing as it has a 16x PCI-Express slot, I'd ditch their X1650 for one of ATI's newest cards.

| If this is to be taken seriously.
1) Compile / Port OS4.x to just run on one-core on this machine. 2) Third-party developers could then target the extra-cores HOW) By using techniques used back when 68k / PPC accelerators were available. 3) Then OS4.x would need an Architectural revamp to support Multi/Core/CPU out of the box by default. _________________ Quote:

This (the YDL Powerstation) has been posted four or five times already, but yeah, it would be nice. Yellow Dog has been around for a while now, so I suspect they would be a reliable source of hardware, unless the current economic storm takes them down. _________________ "Unix is supposed to fix that." -- Jay Miner |

Some people will prefer to sell you a 600Mhz machine, later a 800Mhz one, later a 1Ghz one, later a 1.2Ghz one, and so on until you reach 2.5Ghz.
Giving customers modern hardware would lack any sense when they can milk customers and make them buy slow hardware for premium prices. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |

| @Crumb Let's make this clear.
Are stating Hyperion and ACube are purposely forcing AmigaOS users to buy lower spec hardware in order to "milk customers"?
Do you think this is a good way to get rich? _________________ ExecSG Team Lead |

and who will develop all the needed drivers for this beast? If Hyperion does that, the price of the OS4 licence will increase dramatically. Think about it!Last edited by elwood on 16-Oct-2008 at 06:14 PM. Last edited by elwood on 16-Oct-2008 at 06:14 PM.

You could say the same about the A4000T, A HUGE MONSTROUSITY OR a machine with upgrade potential and expandable. Power will be needed if were going to push the platform forward - Firefox, 3D games, raytracing, etc._________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." I´m tempted to buy one even if it not run AmigaOS so imagine if AOS was avaliable for it, I immediately would buy one Last edited by Fransexy on 16-Oct-2008 at 11:24 PM.

Seen it all before? Well it must have been the one day I didn't check Amigaworld in the last 5 years. Maybe it's a timezone thing.
Anyhooo, at least for this money you get on par or better with the latest x86 offerrings. (for a couple of months) It's not for everyone, but it could be the Amiga flagship. People are going to laugh at our new 600mghz Amiga machines you know. But less so if there are options.
We cannot complain that there is no hardware out there, that's for sure (and I realise that hasn't been the problem). ShAmiga I'm looking at you!!!
When I started reading the specs I felt like the scientist in Back to the Future, grasping my head, and exclaiming a figure in disbelief, "Quad core 2.5 Gigahertz!!!!","Quad core 2.5 Gigahertz!!!!". OK, I already have an x86 quad-core sitting on my desk at work, but imagine if it wasn't running Vista. Last edited by BigBentheAussie on 16-Oct-2008 at 11:44 PM.

Chip makers sell you "old" technology to get the maximum profit and release the improvements progressively so they can milk its customers. That's the reason motorola sells some EC 060s with the full mask (as it's cheaper for them to relabel the cpus already built) or AMD/Intel creates chips with the same mask and speed but puts different labels of speed.
It's Amiga Inc's stupid license scheme the thing that is ruining the market, created solely to "milk customers".
Hyperion has done a great job with AmigaOS4 and they are locked due to the damn license to the hardware chosen by Amiga Inc. OS4 could have been running on G4 cheap hardware if it wasn't by Amiga Inc.
I'm not stating anything about ACube or Hyperion, if you have some kind of paranoia that forces you to put words in others mouths it's your problem. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |
