@Metalheart

Thanks for posting it here, didn't have time to do so myself yet.

@all
Please read the link before commenting and be sure to read the other two news items on Amigabounty. They are both important.

Congratulations Troels.... when the OS4 version is really as good as finished, Marcik has no obligations anymore towards the donating OS4-community. So he can now sell it to all of you for whatever fee (when it's ready).

I agree, why the sudden hurry to stop the bounty. 2-3 months is not a long time
enough. As to why he had to wait so long befor starting ? Well we all have our reasons, and most of us has a life outside the computer world also.

There never was a requirement that the OS4 version should be free.

Considering that Marcik has no interest in AmigaOS4 whatsoever I find it hard to believe that he will spend a lot of time porting Sputnik for free to an OS that he doesn't use and has no interest in just to be able to sell a couple of additional copies of his program.

@salass00

Perhaps if more people thought there was money to be made in Amiga programming.....?

Personally ,in view of all the free linux stuff and the free Safari ,SeaMonkey, etc ,OpenOffice,etc., my reluctance to buying software kicks in at about $20 and builds from there !

I realize OS is more complex programming and worth more so would grudgingly pay $100 for full feature OS.

I'll guess one could sell 5,000 to 10,000 copies of a good Amiga program now if the programs were personalized with buyer's name embedded at the time of sale to discourage piracy.
And $100,000 less expenses probably pays the salary of 1 or 2 Western programmers or 3 or 4 more in Russia or India.

WARNING.... I totally reject the notion of canceling bounties.

1st time it happens, it leads to the likelihood of it happening to other bounties.

Each time it happens, it builds up fear in the community. Possible bounty hunters think 10x longer when they know, there is a bad history / reputation of cancellations.

I would encourage those who value the fair Terms / Conditions of bounties, to place your money back into the Sputnik project, via an escrow service or another Bounty site.

@all

Troels just forwarded me a donation from the Sputnik bounty money. As I don't yet have a list of names, I'd like to publicly thank those who agreed to donate to the NetSurf port as an alternative.

No sweat. Since I started the original thread here on Netsurf I was very happy to see someone take it up. You deserve every penny! Wish I had a SAM already to run it!

If MUI 4.0 is the biggest obstacle for porting as Marcik says, why not establish a bounty for porting MUI 4.0 to OS4.x?

Wow, great idea! I bet NO ONE has ever thought that before!

... people have already tried and failed to obtain the source code to port it.

@mausle

No reason to be mean!

@jahc

Sputnik is not exactly open-source either. The same way we tried to convince its author to port it to OS4.x, we may be able to convince the author of MUI 4.0 to do the port. Is he not willing to?

Everyone knew Marcins stance on AmigaOS 4.0 before
the bounty was started. And yet you all "fell" for it and
cheered him?!

You are not the ones who should complain, and blame
his stance towards AmigaOS 4.0.

Yet, Marcin agreed to do it, didn't he? I'm sure he
wouldn't agree to a bounty if he had no intentions
to fulfill it.

Well, if you guys can't give him a few more months..
It's your loss, and yours alone.

Very understandable decision about the bounty.

Clearly latest MUI4 needs to be ported to AOS4 first, not Sputnik to a older version of MUI, that would have been 100% insane (IMHO).
