Well,I remember posting about on how to connect my laptop to my Amiga One but as I lost the connection about two weeks ago I have to know what is the matter with my Windows Vista in order to connect to my Amiga One with the "Center of net and shared resorces" of my PC.The problem came when I lost my connection and I only can download with my laptop it was so sad to me because I love to go to OS4depot and make my dreams true with all classes of utilities, programs and games among emulators for my beloved machine that is the Amiga One.Now I feel like lost in the ice with the stupid Windows Vista and my Amiga without internet connectivity.

I am disturbing the peace of my laptop in order to make it right again to share my Internet connection with my Amiga One.

The question is more simpler than it could be.How can I share a wireless internet connection between my Amiga One and my PC serving the laptop as host machine?

I tried more than 3 hours yesterday but no luck?!

Any ideas about this problem?

Thanks I need to connect again my Amiga One to the net!

If you have both wireless and wired interfaces on your laptop, you can bridge them and connect your AmigaOne to your laptop, probably via a cross-over cable, depending on whether or not your interface(s) can detect the type of cable in use and swap the signals internally.

In Windows, it's as simple as selecting both interfaces, right-clicking the selection, and then selecting Bridge Connections. You'll end up with a single virtual interface that works as a wireless interface for Windows and a bridge for all other devices.

I don't remember how to set it up under Linux, but it was never difficult in the past (circa 1998).

@Trev

Thanks for the answer Trev!

OK it must be simple enough as I personally make it work with my limited knowledge about Windows Vista a system I have never touched before and the encouragement and feedback of some people of Amiga World.

Do you ever know something of Windows Vista apart of Linux and AmigaOS?

Yesterday I tried with and ad hoc connection and when I configured on the Amiga One side ansd opened IBrowse I feel like it coulkd be when the light shows blue on the browser but I don't believe it can go more far away on this ad hoc type of connection so I thank "better try
another time".

Has anybody similar experiences with a networking between a PC and the Amiga?

What options are the best for this task?

Ask here all you want to know and I will be pleased to ask you.

Yes it solved, the problem is that I tried on my own for 3 or 4 hours yesterday and I never got to a satisfactory solution .The old thread it solved maybe I will go to look again but if someone is so kind I will be grateful with. And remember that this site is my fauvorite with Amigans.net to post questions and all the things so suppose is the perfect site to ask things like networking and the likes. The news and other feauteres are perfect too for me.

Note that I have a 3G USB modem attached on the laptop and a network DSL cable between the Amiga and the PC both connected.

Any answers or ideas on how to share this wireless connection for the benefit of my Amiga One?

The easiest way is to get a router that can do both wireless and wired

I agree. There are routers on the market that support routing between standard 3G USB modems and local WiFi and Ethernet devices, e.g. http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/3GMobileBroadband/MBR624GUSP.aspx. (I prefer Linksys to Netgear, even though they're both owned by Cisco, but I can't find a comparable Linksys product.) You'll need something that works in your region of the world, though.

I use Vista at home. You're probably looking at Vista's default network settings view. There's a link on the left that says something like "view network connectiosn." I'll fill in the details later today. EDIT: Or you can read this: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/785e46b1-f445-4bd3-93bd-1235ba2e146d1033.mspx. You can probably find a localized version on Microsoft's site if you prefer something other than English.

EDIT: In Spanish: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/es-ES/Help/785e46b1-f445-4bd3-93bd-1235ba2e146d3082.mspx

Thanks for the links.

I will read later but is there a router solution available on Amiga shops like AmigaKit?

Can you asure some of the products of the links must work with Amiga One OS4.1 systems?

I supposse they are multi-system and are a good purchase for my Amiga One?

My USB modem is wireless from Movistar Spain.

The only thing I can say about network bridges with computers is that with only an ethernet cable I was able to connect to the WWW and send/receive mail on my Amiga configuring Vistas's parameters of the network.

Strange.

I have simply used Netgear adsl modem, and setup my Amiga with internet.

If I want to retrieve something from windows, I would simply (In future) use RDesktop application to bridge a LAN network between them??

Not usre baout how others are doing it, or why the complicated way of doing it, but I think RDesktop is the simplest and quickest way, according to a friend anyway. Havent tried it yet myself.

SO I suppose I better set it up over the weekend, and see what happens.

Cheers.

There are no "Amiga" routers. Your AmigaOne has an on-board Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) controller that will work with any 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX compatible Ethernet device, including hubs, switches, routers, bridges, and other nodes.

If you have successfully created a bridge in Vista, and you can use that to connect to the Internet, then you're done; however, if you want to connect to the Internet from your AmigaOne without using your Vista-based PC, you'll need a router compatible with your USB modem.

What type of hardware (manufacture and model) did Movistar provide? You may already have a router.

OK so the routers of the links are compatible with my A1 XE G3 800 Mhz?
I hope they are and can do it the work for my Amiga system.
Here are the specs and info of the USB modem (translated from a spanish box and manual):

-MODEM USB 3G
-Provider:Telefonica Movistar
-High Speed connection
-Product compatible with Windows Vista

-Technical requeriments:
1.XP or Vista
2.USB 2.0
3.50 MB of space on HD

-Characteristics:

1.Slot for SD memory cards
2.HSDPA/UMTS 2100 Mhz
3.GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz
4.HSDPA 7.2 Mbps (download speed)
5.UMTS 384 Kbps (upload speed)

That's all the info about the modem that is printed on the box.

I tried the connection with ad hoc, wireless and now with a bridge but nothing happens on my Amiga One,what can I do now to properly share my internet connection between both machines?

How much a wireless router does it cost and is it easy to configure on any machine?
I am thinking to buy one of these type of routers fro the benefit of my Amiga.

Does your USB modem have any other markings on it? Does it look like a flash drive, or is it a larger device connected via a cable?

Quote:

I'm not sure where the "ad hoc" and "wireless" settings enter the picture. You have an Ethernet cable between your AmigaOne and your PC, and your PC is connected directly to the USB modem, right? I that case, you should see two network connections in Windows, one for your USB modem, and one for your Ethernet interface. It's those two interfaces that you need to bridge.

Are you seeing link lights on both the AmigaOne and PC Ethernet ports? If not, you probably need a cross-over cable. Any decent computer or electronics store should have them, or you can make one yourself. If you're not all familiar with this kind of cabling, though, it's much easier to just buy one.

@Trev&all

Here is the answer of Workbench when it tries to configure my net interfaces "PPP" (modem connection) and the newly created "PPPoe" (LAN connection):

"Saturday April 18 00:38:30 2009 [error] IP adress duplicated 0.0.0.0 sent from ethernet adress"
"Saturday April 18 00:30:01 2009 [error] IP adress duplicated 0.0.0.0 sent from ethernet adress"

Messages received after configuring the network on SYS:Prefs/Internet.

What this can it mean?

Tell me how you setup this weekend and see what happens.

I have to update my OS4.1 system with the latest MiniGL and SDL apart
from the latest SDK for OS4.1 too.

I really don't know how to setup a bridge on my laptop and need to connect my Amiga One to the internet againfor all the reasons like:browsing,mail,,etc...

My modem is a white USB one with green and blue lights with the Movistar logo over it.It has a white cable to connect to a USB port too.

Yes my Amiga One gives the green light on its ethernet port so I am only missing the configuration part.

And about the bridge option in WIndows I was unable at the moment to bridge to connection on my PC and I have the number of 7 wireless,1 ADSL connection via WAN mini-port,1 Nvidia Nforce Networking Controller that it says is unused when I have my Amiga turned off and one of my Realtek USB 2.0 Network Controller marked as wireless too.

What are best options to do the internet connection between the laptop and the Amiga?

http://www.internet.movistar.es/catalogo/modem

Do you have the Huawei E169 or Huawei E220?

EDIT:

First, remove all bridged connections.

Second, Movistar supplies custom software for configuring and using network connections, including both WiFi and mobile. You need to determine which of your connections represents the mobile connection managed by the Movistar software. Once you know that, open the Properties for that connection, select the Sharing tab, and select the "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" option. In the "Home network connection" drop-down list, select your NVIDIA adapter. Click OK.

NOTE: Once you enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), Windows will change the IP address on your NVIDIA adapter and enable DHCP, NAT, and routing features necessary to support ICS.

Last, enable DHCP on your AmigaOne and restart. (I don't have AmigaOS 4, so I don't know what the exact steps are. I'm sure someone can fill this in.) Your AmigaOne will obtain an IP address from your Vista system, and you should now be "on the Internet."

It is a Huawei E169 USB modem one.Have you stayed on Movistar's site?

What do you think now?

Take a look at the edits above.

Re: Movistar, Huawei, and others, I think they should design their hardware and software to work according to the specifications documented by Microsoft. Requiring the use of proprietary software to use standard protocols is silly (and confusing, obviously).

Keep in mind that only 3 weeks ago I managed to re-direct the net connection from the laptop to the Amiga One.

What is the point to make the connection possible?

What I am doing wrong on my PC?

Any more ideas?

Please help me I'm more than 3 weeks with my miggy without internet access.

I have to connect again to the net with my Amiga One!

Has anybody make a sharing Internet connection between his/her PC and his/her Amiga One or similar?

What can I do to take advantage of my Windows Vista and share same wireless connection with my Amiga One?

It's really important for me to make it happen because I need to do several tasks that needs TCP/IP on the Amiga.
