I have updated AmiMSN to play nice with OS4 (almost)..

Everything seems to work as well as it does on OS3, except file requesters when sending/receiving files, so don't try that yet!

Please read the "MUSTREADTHISFIRST.TXT" file.. It's there for a good reason.

Please direct your browser here: http://members.ii.net/~trebs/AmiMSN/

Edit: Link was wrong. Now points to the right .lha
Edit2: OS4 version does not need stunnel, it uses openssl directly from the AmiCygnix package, and an OS4 PPC binary of bc. So, less requirements all in all.

I am looking for someone who can design an icon for an upcoming final release of 1.0 by the end of June. Anyone interested in helping out, please reply here or e-mail me at the e-mail address on the website.

It should look nice in AmiDock, and have both new and old icon types, and look reasonably well with low colours. If that is not possible, then 2 sets of icons, one for 16-32 colours and the other for 256 or above.

No plagiarism!

AmiMSN is a console client with an IRC daemon built-in. So the icon would be fairly generic, and probably not incorporating any form of screenshot.

I have thought about revamping the site a little bit. It's only very plain because it's just there to host the files, not show anything off... and I am a busy person these days with not much time to code.

Might do that. I don't want anything fancy, just something that'll sit nice in AmiDock. I'm not interested in keeping any rights to a logo. I'll credit the work, and whoever designs it can license it however they want.

My main focus is making sure it doesn't crash on OS4 (so far it's good, and i've stopped openssl warnings from appearing during login), and is a stable and efficient client.

My expertise is in AREXX. I'm sure I could learn C but I don't have time. I'm studying Japanese, and have a day job and just busy overall.

I don't know of any asynchronous GUI solution. That is why I can have a gui in CTGUI or RXDraughts but not AmiMSN. I decided on the IRCd solution as a way to have a GUI within the limits of AREXX.

The goal of AmiMSN is for an MSN client for the Amiga, that remains able to connect to the servers and be able to chat to people. MSNP8 probably doesn't have much life left, and hence I use MSNP11, a much harder protocol to implement, but should remain for some time yet.

When I started writing it, there was a 68k version of Epistula that was taken down, never to be seen again.. and no other MSN client available.

SabreMSN fills the void for those who need something that looks nice, with a GUI, and AmiMSN should be (I hope) the client that continues to work when MSNP8 gets shut off, and WookieChat can be used as it's GUI... So, James, you might want to think about MSNP11+ !

AmiMSN 1.1, if that ever eventuates, will be able to send/receive offline messages and hopefully send/receive files with MSNP2P. Windows Live Messenger does not seem to have MSNFTP capability anymore.

It's a great MSN application!!!

BTW: I don't have OpenSSL on C:, could such command be in AmiMSN.cfg too? So i can put the path instead of changing AmiMSN.rexx

@jabirulo

Those UBX lines (for personal messages) indicate 81 characters to be read, however the log doesn't show it.. I'm guessing this is where the problem is.

Are you on OS4? OpenSSL is by default in C: when you install AmiCygnix, but sure i'll make a config file option for it. I will add OS4.x detection as well.

I will have it read the Workbench or Kickstart ENV variable. Can someone give me the values on OS 4.0 and what MOS reports? I was thinking about >49 = OS4 but i'm not sure if that's accurate.

Please run tcpdump like so:

tcpdump -p -xA -s 10000 -w ram:test.txt

Then run AmiMSN until it loses the connection, ctrl-c to break tcpdump, then email me test.txt and the AmiMSNDebug.log file to the e-mail address listed on the site. Your password is encrypted and I won't be able to see it, so don't worry.

I haven't updated the AmiMSN-OS4.lha yet, but since then i've got the OpenSSL STDERR output (versign stuff) directed to >NIL: so you won't see it.

Once i've sorted out why your account doesn't work with it, i'll get to work by adding BLOCK/UNBLOCK/ALLOW/DISALLOW and splitting /names output (so long contact lists don't cause an overflow when using /names in IRC), and enhancing IRC mode so it's fully functional. Then 1.0 will be released.

1.1+ may include file transfer via DCC SEND gateway, to even a PC running MSN Messenger I know the logistics of it. It's possible to do, so it's all about time for me.

@MickJT

Look here http://www.gregdonner.org/workbench/ you can see WB & KS version numbers (OS4 is +V50)

BTW OS4 error-stream is *> so maybe you can add *>NIL: to RUN commands so it doesn't output errors under OS4+

Damm!! just tried now and it doesn't LOST CONNECTION :-/ but i think it happens 'cos i don't have any friends now Online all of them are now Offline
Will the tcpdum help in this case?

IIRC i changed your old AmiMSN.rexx to use ASL (reqtools still m68k) i'll have a look if i can change it again an made it configurable

BYE & THX

EDIT: just updated AmiMSN.rexx to use ASL or ReqTools (new cfg variable UseRQ added)
Tested a few times, and now it doesn't LOST CONNECTION, maybe it was due with such contact, so as soon he is online again i'll try again AmiMSN and try tcpdumd too.

@nubechecorre

OpenSSL comes in AmigaOS4.1 CD (along with AmiSSL libs...)

IIRC OS4's md5sum doesn't need ixemul_lib (located in C:)
First start AmiCygnix,w airt some seconds and then AmiMSN.rexx, here works fine (apart of a couple of bug/problems)

If you want you can comment ( /* */ ): or remove such line.

***AmiMSN.rexx***
..
SAY "Checking necessary requirements.."

Call Pragma("W","NULL")

/* IF ~Exists("LIBS:ixemul.library") THEN Call ErrMsg("MD5SUM requires ixemul.library") */
IF ~Exists("LIBS:rxlibnet.library") THEN Call ErrMsg("Missing rxlibnet.library from rxsocket archive")
..
***AmiMSN.rexx***

The OS4 checks will make sure ixemul.library is not looked for if OS4 is being used.

jabirulo, I did try *>NIL: but it just doesn't work for me. Anyway, I need STDOUT to a file and STDERR to >NIL. I've done it using "sh -c".

MD5SUM just appeared magically in C: for me. I assume it's part of the AmiCygnix package, along with OpenSSL.

jabirulo, a tcpdump log is pointless if no problems were encountered.. No rush, though.

@MickJT

ex.: ADDRESS COMMAND "Run >NIL: *>NIL: DH1:Comm/Varios/OpenSSL T:openssl.tmp"

I just commented out such line, 'cos ixemul_lib is not needed with OS4
/*IF ~Exists("LIBS:ixemul.library") THEN Call ErrMsg("MD5SUM requires ixemul.library")*/

Maybe an OS4 check and refactoring initialization (first read .cfg, then check libs and such..) would be handy

BTW why do we need AmiCygnix? didn't loook deeply on source, but just to know what offers AmiCygnix that OS4 has not.

BYE & THX

EDIT1: yep me again. refactored some output strings (no big changes), OpenSSL is path-configurable now and can choose between ASL/RT
Tried to run without AmiCygnix started/enabled and works without problems. Sometimes i get a GR and it points to rxsocket_lib but no big problems, well apart that FileTransfer doesn't work with friends using MSN-Live :-/

But keep the good work!!!

BYE
