I have now made the fifth alpha release (please use the download link in the first post). Changes include:

* No-longer hangs when E-UAE is closed before the 68k program is run.
* No-longer quits when an unexpected (but non-fatal) error occurs.
* Added menu items for editing the time out & priority for E-UAE.
* If the window was hidden, then it is temporarily opened to let you know E-UAE is being started.
* The installer now offers to use your previous installation choices.

BTW, anyone got any suggestions for RunInUAE? I think it's getting close to how I want it now, so running out of ideas myself.

Had not yet the time to test the latest version, but i hope, i can do it tonight

Another suggestion besides the "hdf"-issue is:

How about a menu entry, which changes e-uae-config to switch between fullscreen and window mode easily?

thanks for RunInUAE!

I hope to fix the HDF issue.

But switching between full screen & windowed would probably be too fiddly to add soon (although maybe eventually). Ideally Cyborg would make a couple of minor tweaks to his EasyUAE GUI, so that it will work with RunInUAE.

I have now made the sixth alpha release (please use the download link in the first post). Changes include:

* You no-longer need to reset E-UAE to run another HD game, as it quits & restarts E-UAE for you. This GREATLY simplifies RunInUAE's usage!

* Added menu items to insert/eject disks & change the frame skip.

* Automatically removes virtual volumes with invalid paths. So you can now use HDF images mounted using DiskImage without a problem!

* Now checks a newly chosen E-UAE executable has a .uaerc_RunInUAE config file.

* No-longer adds an unneeded empty line before "filesys" it adds to E-UAE's config. (Harder than it sounds!)

Hey, unfortunately I haven't tested up until now. I will do so within today.

Let me ask you, the install notes (what we need), are inside the .lha package, right?

What steps will I need to take?

Install e-uae with easy-gui, install roms, install your program, copy previously installed on a winuae folder full whdload games to OS4.1 U1 drawer and play?

I have around 3GB of whdload games, many of which are aga of course, will they be unplayable?

I haven't tried e-uae but I would consider myself a winuae guru since I am heavily tweaking it for over 8 years by now, so I bet I will do the same with e-uae and squeeze its guts out regarding performance. Will I be able to edit the properties e-uae when it comes to individual whdload games, save it and when I restart them, runinuae will remember it?

Don't try the sixth alpha release yet, but could it be added an option allowing to not switch automatically on uae screen when lauching a whdload game ?

Thanks for this nice tool.

May I ask why? I mean, surely double-clicking on a game means you want to play it? To me seems a bit like asking that double-clicking on OWB does NOT bring it's screen to the front...

(Someone else asked for a windowed mode, would that be a better solution? Bearing in mind that the window will be *tiny*.)

Yup.

1. Install v0.8.28 of E-UAE (you can have several versions of E-UAE installed without problem)

2. Use RunInUAE's installer, and answer any questions. It will copy the ROMs & other files off an Amiga Forever CD, if you have one, otherwise you will need to tell it where to find them.

3. Yes, copy your folder full of WHDLoad games to OS4. Then double-click them to run! Non-AGA games perform best on my 667MHz Sam.

On my Sam FLEX 800, I think that it takes about 30 - 40 seconds to be fully loaded (runinuae + uae + game) , so I switch to WB to do something else.

Of course it depends on game (f there is no intro picture : 20 s ; assassin 35-40 s).

(I try to launch game with iGames but there is something wrong)

I have now made the seventh alpha release (please use the download link in the first post). Changes include:

* Tried another fix for the intermittent IDF9: installation problem, and now clearly warns if the problem still happens.

* Fixed the installer checking for a 320x256 screen mode, but adding a 320x240 mode. This could have caused quite a few problems; please check the files in your "Sys:Devs/Monitors" folder for duplicate tooltype entries.

* Fixed a number of installer problems when not using the Amiga Forever CD. I obviously should have tested it rather more. Please try installing again if you had problems before!

* Implemented a "Basic Workbench" mode for when people have problem starting HD installed games.

* Added a setting to keep UAE in the background. (A bit of a kludge, let me know if it is of any use - I will remove it if it's no use.)

* Now displays it's commodity hot-key (if any) in the window title bar.

* Now checks UAE's User-Startup for missing/duplicate uae_rcli lines, and corrects it if necessary.

* Improved error reporting.

BTW, just in case anyone wonders, there will be no updates over this weekend, so now is a good time to try the latest alpha! (I really hope to make it beta ASAP.)

@ChrisH

I don't think your installer likes being installed from or to volumes with spaces, like RAM Disk:

My rom files and workbench install are in directories containing a space.

Type: unable to open redirection file
RAM Disk:Prefs/Env-Archive - COPY: object not found

Why is it looking for RAM Disk:Prefs/ ? Weird...

Edit: That problem is solved by having the wb3.1 files in a folder without a space.

.. but here's a new one. When double-clicking on an .adf which is Work:Games/Some Game Name/Disk1.adf it says (and this is INCLUDING quotes):

Please insert volume "Work: in any drive

Then if I cancel that it says ""Work:Games/Some Game Name/Disk.adf"" is not visible inside E-UAE.

etc.. etc.. quadruple quotes there :)

Furthermore, my monitor (Slimview 500 LCD 15" 4:3) doesn't do 320x240, and i'm suspecting a lot of modern monitors won't, especially the widescreen ones. I could be wrong.

I have to use 640x480, not lowres, doubled linemode, and correct aspect true in order for all the picture to be in the screen.

Remember LCD monitors have a 1:1 pixel ratio, so I need that on, here.

Also, this is slower than 320x240 lowres naturally, so most games need a frameskip of 2 or 3.

I would be surprised if this was the case, since I always program with that in mind. But I ran some tests anyway, and have NOT been able to reproduce your problem - it all works perfectly here with spaces in the path (for both installation source AND destination).

If I'm going to stand a chance of reproducing your problem, I'll need some details - preferably ALL of your installation choices/answers.

Quote:

OK, I was able to reproduce this one! Should be fixable...
edit: Nearly fixed...

I wouldn't be surprised if some *cheap* monitors can't handle 320x256, but I don't think being "modern" has anything to do with it. No idea about widescreen ones, but would seem a bit silly if they were worse than 4:3 monitors.

How is the "background" feature I added to the seventh alpha? If it's not good enough, then I'll remove it.

I have now made the eighth alpha release (please use the download link in the first post). Changes include:

* Detects & offers to repair bad .uaerc_RunInUAE config files. This should (hopefully) fix the last remaining source of problems starting HD games...

* Now runs ADFs that have a space in their path.

* Slightly improved installer.

I have now made the ninth alpha release (please use the download link in the first post). Changes include:

* Now correctly emulates WHDLoad being run from the Shell, so iGame now works. This required quite a few changes to support, so please report if you notice any new bugs!

* The window's close gadget now hide's RunInUAE instead of quitting it.

* Fixed the AppIcon not appearing in certain cases.

* Got rid of "Found disk" messages for ADFs.

* Added "DONOTWAIT" tootype to RunInUAE's icon. So it can now be run from the WbStartup without an annoying message on start-up.

* Some other minor fixes & changes.

Anyone got any thoughts on this alpha? Although I could keep adding new stuff, I think it's ready for a proper/official release soon...

I have updated on the previous one version (R7) and no problems. Working fine...

Not work:

Dropping an .ADF icon not work and Dropping whdload icon not work:
message: -> animotion.adf doesn't seemed to be a 68k program.

Work:

whdload game by using the whdload icon itself on with a workbench menu work fine.

Hum, how using Igame ??? I must have an HDF (what is this??) or must I add on my workbengh drawer all necessary to run Igame ????
Yes, I need also informations for how using E-UAE

This is supposed to happen! A *lot* has changed since the last official release - please read the docs for more info. But basically:

You either double-click ADFs (and other games), or otherwise you drop them on it's icon (AppIcon or AmiDock icon). Dropping games onto RunInUAE's window is now used to change the preferences related to that game (currently there are only prefs for 68k programs).

Quote:

iGame has nothing to do with HDFs. Please read iGame's documentation, but basically you add "repositories" (a fancy name for folders & partitions) to it, then they will all appear inside iGame.
