Remember Apple swallowed P.A.Semi?

Apparently the main brains have bailed and have been involved in a new startup named "Agnilux".

Apple Loses Key Chip Executive

NY Times blog

This Agnilux in startup would explain a lot of the secrecy *and* the possibility of the PA6T coming back from the grave.

Interesting...

@gregthecanuck

Nice research ... but I have my doubts it is about PPC maybe if they would do it for Cisco.

@Arko

As with any startup in apparent 'stealth' mode they are putting out a nice story. It will be interesting to see what they are really working on.

Well, what does Agnilux mean? It's latin, derrived from agni (lambs) and lux (light). Light for lambs? Sounds more like the Vatican's electricity company...

Amiga & Linux Inc -> Agnilux, Inc
(anyone had enough of riddles yet?)

At least a-eon has better web site than this: http://www.agnilux.com/

IIRC, same guy was @ DEC developing xcale ARM core, then intel bought him & xcale, then he went to start PASemi, then for Apple to help to put together A4, now again something new.

Look out this guy, what he does in chip business he seem to succeed! I hope he is back @ PPC SoC development.
btw. if Agnilux is using PA6T & taking it forward, it would be worth a NDA!!!!! (rumors rumors & soap opera & popcorn)

And about bad web pages&sites & improving them.... what is Ray A Key doing nowdays?

update, A line from the press: " The New York Times reported that a number of engineers and key executives have formed a startup with links to Cisco Systms said to be working on a server processor and with links to Cisco. "

Err no, its a #### mix of two languages. Agni is the Sanscrit name for the deva lord of fire. Used as a prefix it always refers to some kind of fire or being of fire. Electricity would be a candidate even. Agni yoga is the yoga of spiritual fire. Agni also represents purity - by fire - and of course there is an identification with light. The related latin term is ignis from which we get ignite etc.

So does the name seem more meaningful now?

Yup - Amiga Inc are involved as they are very good at "working in stealth mode"...

To be good at "working in stealth mode", you must first do some work! :P

Well, that website does present the little information it contains directly without sending the visitor to some stupid riddle, so in terms of "doing buisness" it's an absolute no-brainer whose website is "better".

I think you meant "lamp-chop" there

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

I don't think the intellectual properties Apple purchased as part of P.A Semi is in this guys backpack.
(And it's not like Apple is running short on talented chipdesigners either.)

Agnilux is an early stage startup.

I have a feeling production chips won't be on the market any time soon.

@gregthecanuck

This would be very cool for us. It was certainly the best PowerPC CPU in my opinion, and I was really disappointed to lose that possibility to Apple's trash can. But even with it being the best choice then, and even perhaps still right now, it is a few years old design at this point. I'm very hopeful that if they do resurrect the PA6T that they also get it back into product design for improvements, reimplemented in newer fab technologies, new/improved features, etc.

Sometimes I really wonder why you are here Kronos....nothing but complaints from you for years now. You have done nothing good for the situation...nothing! - Even when the situation finally seems good you keeps bashing and destroying every little thing. The riddle was fun and the best thing to happen to us (not you apparently because you are only here to spread FUD)

I wonder how the developers and risc takers of AmigaOS and the hardware feels, by reading you'r sick malice year after year.

I'm amazed that you're allowed to be here (if this was my site you were banned a long time ago)

Apple would crush them if he attempted anything that would touch Apple's IP. Why would he even bother a long and costly development on PPC considering demand is dropping while demand is increasing for ARM based products.
