| Yesterday after the vacations on Leon-SPAIN,I have a bad day because my Amiga One fron Eyetech doesn't work at all again.
What can I do to boot the Amiga One again?
Has anyone similar problems as me on the last days?
I am very surprised to see my A1 doesn't boot again but worse things are being presented here and there.
Any help appreciated. _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

Igual con un poco de cecina y vino del Bierzo, se obra el milagro, ya sabes el Amiga es diferente hasta para esto. |

| @newlight Probably that used battery again.. The AmigaONE can eat up even a brand new battery within months due to some design flaw/bug. |

Mi madre es de al lado de Amayuelas de Arriba cerca de Amusco y se apellida Alario. Y mi padre sera Arturo Vega Henares y es de Revilla de Collazos.
De parte de mi madre un saludo efusivo.

| I feel your pain Newlight.
My AmigaOne XE crapped out on the weekend too. That's twice it's done the same thing. The first time it happened it just automagically started working again...this time isn't looking so good. A few random characters out of COM1 are all it can be bothered doing.
Not much of a thank you for giving the piece of garbage a new battery!

The fact you are getting something is a good sign.
Though random garbage is a bit vague. Are your serial speeds in sync? 115,200 baud; 8,N1 is the usual setup and speed UBoot now works in. Which you probably knew. Unless you know what speed it is if it differs.
Other advice would be to let it clear before putting in the battery again. Say half an hour off the power from the wall. Though five minutes should clear the power remaining on the board. See how you go.
I got a black screen once like this before my battery fizzled out. I followed the above procedure and it worked again. But IIRC I left it over night.Last edited by Hypex on 31-May-2010 at 04:29 PM.

Yes, I've tried all the baud rates but have spent most time concentrating on 9600 and 115200. By random characters I mean non-ASCII characters.
Removing various things changes what character is displayed (i.e. remove the RAM and boot and you get a character, remove the video card and boot and you get another etc etc).
It's been completely powered off (no power cords attached to the mobo) for a few days and the battery was removed. Plugged it all back in and stil no dice.
To be honest the damn thing has never been that reliable since I bought it used about 6 months ago. Worst Amiga investment I've ever had and will not make the same mistake again.
This one is either going into the bin or being wall-mounted in a picture frame...it's no use to anyone and I'd feel bad selling it as such. Right now I'm leaning towards the bin..rather not ever see the thing again |

Already tried. Garbage comes out at 4800 and 9600..anything higher than that and absolutely nothing comes out.
I think even the non-ASCII characters are just noise...one character immediately upon switch on and one more immediately upon switching her off. Last edited by dangermouse on 01-Jun-2010 at 08:55 AM.

What happens when you wriggle the processorboard a little, during startup?
Chances are that your machine will boot properly. If so: then your processor needs reballing or reflowing. That means that someone has to resolder your processor. AmigaONE's seem to have this kind of problems.
My A1XE had similar problems. I have it reballed now by Retronix.

Thanks for the tip but still dead.
I've also noticed a lot of people having problems with A1s. Are the SAMS built to a better standard or can they be just as bad? If a SAM is more reliable I'll just pickup a 440/460 and say bugger the A1..it's been a pain since the first day I had it.

Overall I *suppose* the SAM's are more reliable than the AmigaOne's, but this might be a "scaling effect", 'cos I think there are more AmigaOne's than SAM's out there. But a SAM isn't undestroyable as well - so there are some died or sick SAM's out there, too. _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |
