Thanks to AAMP-amicygnix (Apache, I now have a developer clone to my website, so that I don't have to experiment with upgrades and changes on the main site any more. I've always wanted to set that up, but may other machines were already tasked with other duties and I didn't want to bog them down.

It was amazingly easy to install and get up and running; auto installation of micro Amicygnix helped a lot. The only thing that would be nice is to have the support tools in English rather than German, and better database management tools. Does AAMP set up myPHPAdmin by default? If so, add the details of how to access it to the documentation. IIRC, a few MySQL tools are under development, or are already done. Can anyone remember the details?

I would also suggest that the installer give people the option to install the server monitor into WBStartup.

So, what are other people using AAMP for?

Hans

@Hans

I have been using it to refresh my SQL skills working my way through a MySQL book as its been many years since I last used SQL in anger as part of my job back before MySQL and php became very popular web and intranet development platform.

I could use my Windows desktop PC or my laptop but my sam440 makes a nice quiet system to work from and I prefer not to have AAMP bogging down my laptop if I don't need to.

I have not yet had a chance to update to the new release version, but the preview version works nicely and I will update next time I have some spare time to play with mySQL.

I'd love to see how MySQL would run under OS4 vs. Linux, I have tried MySQL on OS X (Leo, I think) and database performance was hinder by memory management. It would be nice to see how different type of OS would play into this.

Good to hear, that you like AAMP . There are a lot of things that can be done with it. Don't forget the commandline interpreter for PHP ("php"). With the included extensions it is very powerful.

Sorry, this is a "bug" in the installation. The english catalog files are there, but not found. I guess you have chosen the language "english-british"? There is only a drawer "english" in the catalogs drawer. So please add also "english" to your OS4 locale settings!

AAMP does not contain any web projects, only the files provided by Apache, PHP and MySQL.
The setup of myPHPAdmin is very easy. The normal setup routines in myPHPAdmin are working, but they have problems with the fact, that the standard user of AmiCygnix is "root". It is better to clone the file "config.sample.inc.php" and create the config file by hand. If you need help, just let me know.

AAMP has "mySQLcontrol". You can use it to administrate all your data just like myPHPAdmin. There are no plans for other tools.

Hmm - which server monitor do you mean??

@CygnusEd and Thread

And now I can say that one of the 1st AmigaOS 4.1 (thanks to native AAMP) hosted site is online.

I created this site for my Girlfriend since she wanted to share with others her creativity with jewels.

It was the opportunity for me to try to use AAMP on a Sam440 MiniTX (overclocked to 733 Mhz) and set it up as a webserver at home. AmigaOS 4.1 Update 3 is used.

And it works ! http://perles.creations-perlees.com (French language) is hosted at home on the Sam440. The site is new and is being updated slowly but it's a great achievement for me and my girlfriend (and AmigaOS 4.1 ), my others sites being hosted at 1and1.

CygnusEd : I seldom come across a strange problem when too many requests (or something like that, I don't really know) are received by AAMP : the Apache server stops and frees the memory (and I'm not low on memory when this happens) without any error message : thus the site becomes unreachable. I must so reboot the 440 and StartAAMP again since trying to StartAAMP another time without rebooting doesn't work.

I don't really know where the problem is but it's really not very often anyway.

Thanks for this excellent work !

Bye the way, has anybody else setup a web server with native AAMP ?

@K-L

Nice page! And AAMP seems to have a quite good performance

As described in the README, the apache server in AAMP does not support subprocesses. So the requests can only be handled one after the other. I was not able to add this so far .
Because of this, I don't recommend AAMP for productive use, only for development.

@CygnusEd

Thanks for the explanation !

Will you try agin to make subprocesses work or will you give up ? And is this why AAMP hangs then ?

Thank you again for this package, a must have for AmigaOS.

@Hans

I don't know about AAMP, but I installed MAMP this week I am pretty impressed how easy it was to get going. AAMP looks pretty much the same going by screenshots.
I use Dreamweaver and that was a little tricky to set up at first, once you know how to type in Web URL http:/localhost:8888/foldername its straightforward. However, I am not sure how to upload from the Test Server to the Remote Server in DW as hovering over the upload icon - DW asks do I want to upload to the Test Server (itself!)? Makes no sense (lol) so Cyberduck has to fill that gap for me. If anyone has a tip on how to do that - it'll be useful!

Talking of DreamWeaver, clearly its not available for AmigaOS, but TextWrangler is a useful free editor under OSX - is there a good Text Editor for AmigaOS that can handle multiple open files? I guess if you were really interested in writing web sites on an Amiga - Codebench and FTP Mount would more than suffice.

Thanks

1. Dump Dreamweaver it's for amateurs.

2. Try browsing this thread for a selection of editor suggestions under amigaos

@broadblues

I wouldn't say its for amateurs, but I do spend 95% of my time entering code, and the other 5% checking it looks okay. in essence DW is just a glorified text editor, but being able to view your design beside your code is very helpful. I very rarely use the interface itself to create tags, but many people do do. Syntax checking whilst typing is also a godsend, especially when writing PHP. I understand Codebench has or will have soon PHP syntax checking - I'l be sure to look out for it.

Just out of curiosity can you run a CMS like Drupal or WordPress on it?

Yes, I have a local Wordpress installation - works like a charm. SVN stuff and local iODBC connects with Andrea's tools are possible as well: http://www.amigans.net/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=345&cid=4

...so there enough room for playing around with it...

Yes, that's the reason.
Unfortunately the chances are low that I can fix it
