By all sympathy for the idea - I really don't think that someone will have positive experiences in the "OS3.x" market or whatever remained of it. That product will be ripped and duplicated within minutes. Sorry for being a pessimist.
(I can hear them yelling: "Make Miami open source, make Miami open source..."). _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

I think that it will be a good opportunity for AmigaOS 3.9 users (like me too). _________________

Hmm. I have no problems with Genesis, works as it should, so I have no need for another stack (yet!). I suppose it's mostly OS3.1 users who will have a benefit from a new and accessible TCP/IP stack. _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

It's always better to have multiple alternatives than only one. _________________

This is better IMHO for OS3.5 users who got riped off without a proper stack. |

Genesis looks nice on OS3.9, but doesn't do DHCP. So it was rather dated even back then. I like my DHCP. |

Roadshow under the skins isn't really any more modern either, although it does do DHCP. It should be faster than Miami, though. Not sure about Genesis, it would be interesting to have some tests.
But in any regard, once you get 700KB/sec or more, any Zorro or PCI based network card is taking a large amount of CPU cycles....so I wouldn't expect multiple megabytes per second on classic hardware.

I like my static IP addresses :) I'll let router (or whatever it was called) to do DHCP/PPPoE/whatever is needed._________________ - The wiki based MorphOS Library - Your starting point for MorphOS - Software made by jPV^RNO |

This is great.
Maybe the best is to open a bounty and ask xxx EUROS. When fullfilled, Roadshow 68k become free software.
no key to make, no registering folowing users,......

Yes, and everybody will wait for the others to pay for the bounty. _________________

yes, I'm sure this one will be filled quickly because the demand of roadshow 68k is high IMHO.
no need to make shareware key, no need to trace the registered users, no need to make key 2-3-4 years later, no need to send lots of email related to roadshow, etc..... verry simple for the developper.
Just ask XXX money and wait and release the package to all in one time. Of course, IMHO.
This is verry great because maybe some registered users will put a second time money to reach the money level requested _________________ BTW, what you have done for the amiga today ????

Miami is faster because it probably skips checks. Roasdshow does these checks so it can work properly and this can mean the differewce between 5 and 20 seconds. |

What checks you are talking about? Amiga TCP/IP stacks have more common than you thought.
Anyway, DHCP in Miami 3.x was not perfect. It sometimes failed to work and eventually even crashed in some situations. Or maybe it was just driver bug or SANA-II documentation bug (which is told to be vague) but I found it was better use fixed IP address with Miami.
The most annoying was that there was nobody I could send bug report or get support. I just had to live with its limitations._________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook |

We're all welcome to our opinions, but in this case the only one that matters is Olaf's. If he thinks it's worth while, I'm all for it! I have an FPGA board I hope to port Minimig to which has a 10/100 ethernet port, and an addon card with a 1Gb ethernet port. If only I had time... I also want to make a Zorro bus for Minimig with this board, but I'll need to make a PCB adapter for the Zorro slot onto an FPGA connection. Anyway... I do have a MiamiDX license from way back for testing of anything I play with in these ethernet ports, but a living stack would be nice as well! Then I need to learn how to make SANA-II drivers..._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

Realize that Minimig and Natami can change many/most of the rules for what OS3.x machines are capable of._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

I'm sure that any industry licensing terms were already made possible by previous negotiations for his work in OS4 and everything. _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |
