@clusteruk

You can buy an industry standard mic for £90-£110.

http://www.shure.com/americas/products/microphones/sm/sm58-vocal-microphone

i've owned this same mic since 1999.

But at the end of the day its pretty straightforward when organising these events, simply open the Yellow Pages, look under Discos and hire equipment for the weekend. DJ/Sound Engineer shows up when you ask them to, shows you how to operate the equipment and leaves you alone and collects gear at the end of the event.

@djrikki

Alternatively, you could stick a standard wired directional mic on a mic stand in front of the PA speaker. That'd work well. Or you could see if you could get a mic out line from the PA itself... that way you'd get the recording of the mic in use alredy, without excess background noise.

Wireless Lapel mics would be nice, but a tad expensive. The above 2 solutions could serve you much much better. I've found some cheapies, but not sure of quality. I guess similar products would be available in the US.

I remember thinking of the video of Simon Archer demoing AmigaOS 4.1 update 2 and wishing a simple mic on a small tripod on the desk in front of him had been used. No need to break the bank with things like shotgun mics, wireless lapel mics etc.

Steve's recommendation could work well, excpet the presenter is tethered to the camera, and the mic has to be moved on to each successive speaker which could end up with unwanted 'noise' between speakers (of course a nice edit woudl fix that ).

I definitely think a simple mic on a stand in front of the PA speakers (or on a desk for demonstrators etc) is the way to go, good sound, some freedom to move the camera around without affecting audio and can be relatively un-obtrusive. The multiple wireless lapel mic setup for under $200 might be decent too. depending on the sound quality. Hard to check when purchasing on ebay. Wonder how good the $10 one is.

Just have to keep an eye on your levels then

A second recorder to capture the slides or other presentations would be good also, allowig you to keep the camera on thespeaker, and beable to switch back and forth, showing the presentations full-screen in your videos. I couldn't see details of Trevor's slides, as you see in my request below.

@trevordick

Trev,

Is it possible to get your slides online somewhere? I'm keen to have a look at the XMOS slide showing at ~23 mins into this video.

I'm thinking web format for gerenal consumption.

Sounds like the case is not just a standard PC tower with a boing ball front door, if it's going to be available for classics. Was some customisation needed to make the mount points for classics acailable?

Regards,

tiffers

I really enjoyed this Q&A session, lt has reinforced for me that the future of AmigaOS is in very safe and capable hands.

@Mark76

The first year of AmiWest, we had 4 rooms. 1 for the vendors and the rest for demos/seminars/etc. Since AmiWest is growing again, I suggested adding
rooms for the seminars/etc for next years show. And more notices about the gaming
competitions !

@eliyahu

Pretty interesting, but no great surprises (not necessarily a bad thing of course). Seems things are progressing nicely behind the scenes.

Shame about the projector related antics going on around the three of them, background chatter, and the woman moving boxes, etc. Couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for the three of them standing there at times, maybe they could have a nice press conference-style desk setup next time .

Thanks for the video.

Just to clarify the situation at the show, that lady was Carl Sassenrath's wife Cindy. Their table was right next to to screen to the right & they were just setting up. The speakers were in her way, not the other way around.

@sundown

Fair enough, speakers maybe needed to think through their spot a little more carefully. I think it's an automatic reaction to gravitate towards a projector screen at these things (CPPDS*), even if you're not using it, I know from personal experience .
