While sam460/aos4 are in a way , then there is should be no more secrets or NDA signs about keeping benchmarks in the secret, so can any of the betatesters with sam460, do now some actual benchmarks on real live examples (see below).

As i know there is no warp3d drivers for radeonHD cards for now, so no 3D at all (and no opengl as well), but still, plain SDL apps for example should works, and show their faster speed. In what i in interest , is will some of plain SDL apps faster on sam460 with the best HD card for which we have drivers, or it will be almost the same by any reassons as in my peg2 with radeon9250.

For the test, plz. download that:

eurochart48
hugi34
hugi36

Those diskmags are 1024x768, plain SDL, so, speed of video-bus, and cpu are matter here and will be visually detectable. If any of you can, test plz it on sam460 and give us some words about real-live-current differences (even if result will be not good any reasson).

Or if you can, make a phone-video, to see how it start to be on sam460 with new gfx card, and i can compare with my peg2/1ghz/radeon9250.

That will say more than words, for sure :)

Maybe some of sam460 testers also have a1 (1ghz or more) or peg (1ghz or more), so can run it here as well, to compare with sam460. But even if only sam460 for you and you can do a video of those diskmags in action (how fast they scrolls, how fast effects works), then it will be pretty cool as well.

@Hans, SinanG
I know you both have those, can you please do those tests ? If Hans will do that, then it will be just awesome :) Or anyone else if Hans/SinanG will not in interest.

That real life examples will show all what need to know.

@kas1e

It would be also nice to see results of some benchmarks used in
Benchmarks time! thread and results of Blender benchmark

@pavlor

Blender use OpenGL, so - no 3d - no opengl - no blender :) Benchmarks with Lame tests and any packing/unpacking tools maybe can be interesting, but not so. The most interest its heavy based plain SDL apps, which heavy works with graphics - that will show how fast in real life new 2d drivers + video bus speed at all (that is why those diskmags are best for tests)

@kas1e

About SDL there is a recent update (R43) from afxgroup and m3x, maybe Sam460 owners can try with it

@samo79
Yeah, that need to be tested, but anyway, i in interest to see the differences between the same binaryes and the same libs.

In other words, i just want to know, will it worth to buy sam460 for me, or peg2 will be almost the same still, and for me there matter not so cpu-speed , but video-bus speed , and how it will visually in real-life programms.

Anyway, while there no 3d, it bad .. but well, i can try to put my current radeon9250 in it, if it will faster as it in the peg2 for now (while waiting for 3d for radeonHD). But it only it will faster of course (it should be, but need to be sure).

@kas1e

I've just updated my benchmarks thread with the test found on the AmigaOS4.x SDL development download page :)

Hope that someone will do that also on its setup(also Sam460 users)

I'll do all that as soon as I can so don't expect the results this week.
Other people might be faster than me

@elwood

To reduce stuff, all what you need its download only hugi36.

Then on running stage, be sure that you have "effect on" and "music on" (even if you will not heard it becasue of no driver, still it should be turned on, to make the same cpu loading as with my tests).

Then just do as i do on this video, which i do on peg2: youtube video

after running, you will have articles name list. Then by mouse wheel, just scroll down/up few times (like on my video). Then by arrow-keys "up" and "down", do the same - scroll articles names to bottom/top few times.

And then we can compare my video on peg2 / 1ghz / radeon9250, and your one, on sam460 with pci-e radeonHD.

@all
Sinan on amigans.net do all those tests, and from what i can see, in terms of that apps, its all the same as on peg2 with radeon9250. Maybe sam460 a bit (a very little) faster. Well, maybe speed of those diskmags more CPU related, but that strange ..

There is scroll speed on peg2: youtube video
There is scroll speed on sam460: video (need to download)

Anyway, to sort the stuff, let's do plain SDL benchmark. Download that archive (its sdl benchmark). Just unpack it, reboot, and run from shell "bench" binary and post all the output info here.

@kas1e

Seriously... This diskmag refresh 10 fps... even the slowest vmem bandwitch and slowest CPU should be able to refresh this very smooth.

Conclusion: It's slow, but we don't know why...

@Crisot

Its just diskmag code done like this (plain SDL, without any HW acceleration). There is important not the speed of diskmag itself, but speed differences beetwen sam460 and peg2.

I think plain SDL benchmark-test will say more for us.

@kas1e

I think also a test done with for example, LoView, loading the same (big) picture from everyone can be a good test...
And also the lame test...

For the graphics I think the old good AmiGOD can do a good work :)

@Tuxedo

LoView its hollywood based, which are pretty "heavy" to make any benchmarks with it. I.e. it of course can show us some differences, but it will be the same as with diskmags: you will think, it is problem with Hollywood code, or with dunno what.

Lame test - its only about CPU power, not so interesting as well, because it will be the same as peg2 with 1 ghz. While SDL-bench will write to / from video, show it on screen, etc, etc.

I think an MPlayer test will give good results. Q3 as well.

@Zylesea

Q3 will not give any results, because there is no 3D for now, but will be interesting to see FPS when someone will put Radeon9250 to sam460 (which have 3d) , just to see, will it different with peg2 or not. But something make me think, that none of current sam460 owners, will put only for tests radeon9250 to it.

Anyway, i am not about "good or bad" results, i am about better it than peg2 in compare, with end-user's apps , or the same. If it will be better with some, then i thinkig about buying, if it will be the same as peg2, then will wait while radeonHD will have 3d support.

@kas1e

well...
The load time throught LoView was only depending from CPU and not form hollywood...however better to point on lame test for cpu testing and I think that G4@1000MHz was really faster due to AltiVec opts...maybe the test can be made with the lame version without alitvec opts...

To test gfx until the Gallium wasnt out to test only 2D I return to my idea of using AmiGOD...

@Tuxedo

If someone will do all of this, why not, but SDL bench very easy to run, and we can more cleary compare output from peg2 and sam460.
