Hi guys,

i need to remap func "FN" key on my new logitech keyboard K520 (it has only one win key) with Right Amiga key, i think to set "kbddev_mapping" in uboot, can anybody help me, please. If isn't possible to remap FN key what's the best key to remap like RA key ? I tried setenv kbddev_mapping 0x57=0x66 0x58=0x67 to remap LA and RA to F11 and F12 but no lucky, that variable doesn't seem to work in uboot for Sam460

@SOFISTISOFTWARE

In UBoot prefs for the A1, there is a switch, "set r.win key to the menu key". This set kbdev_norwin in uboot, guessing you set it to "yes", never had to use it yet. No idea if its the same on the SAM or what you're looking for.

@SOFISTISOFTWARE

AFAIK in general the Fn key only works for toggling internal features of the keyboard and doesn't send any code out.

Your best bet to find out if your Fn key is of any use is to try adding a new shortcut with the AllKeys commodity and see if any code appears in the window when you press it by itself or if it changes the qualifier code when you press another key while Fn is held down.

Here I have a cheap illuminated keyboard like this one and its Fn key doesn't send any code nor qualifier. The only use I found for it which wasn't even documented is that Fn+F11 locks the keyboard completely until Fn+F11 is pressed again, which could be handy with pets and kids.

@AlexC

i tried with the help of AllKeys, when i press FN itself i don't see anything but example when i press F9 while FN is held down i can see in allkeys window: $80400066 LAmiga + e and with F10 it shows me: $80400028 LAmiga + l, at the end i must have a Right Amiga Key ! How can i resolve the problem ?? Thanks in advance

As you were told already, you can *not* remap a key which is not seen by the computer. Your FN key is handled internally by the keyboard, it is not sent to the computer.

Buy a keyboard which has a working key on the right side of the space bar. Look at the key layout *before* you buy a keyboard.

@SOFISTISOFTWARE

It sounds like your uboot setting is doing something because if as you say when you press Fn+F9 you get $80400066 that's actually the code for the LAmiga key when it is pressed down. (RAmiga is $8080067)

What you should do is compare the code you see when you press F9 alone versus Fn+F9. If you see the same code then clearly your Fn key is of no use for remapping.

AFAIK you can't use F9 as it sends repeat codes when held down and doesn't act as a "qualifier" key (which add the significant bit of their code to any other key pressed) so the only keys that would work are Ctrl, Shift, Alt, CapsLock, Menu, and the Windows keys as these are all qualifier keys.

Consequently your best bet would be to remap the RAlt or RShift key to the RAmiga key as I don't think you can remap RCtrl (at least here it gives the same code as the left Ctrl key).

You're not the only one with that problem it seems, looking at this blog entry...

Thomas is right too, if you're going to buy a Windows-centric keyboard for your Amiga, make sure it has all the keys the Amiga needs

@AlexC

i have the keyboard and mouse of the blog ! Ok, i don't want to use the FN key, now i would use (example) F11 or F12 or better right Alt, how can i remap those keys to Right Amiga key ??? Neither kbddev_mapping seems work with my sam460 nor the variable in env/usb/hid.keyboard... however you are right the CTRL keys have the same code. If i press only F9 i see in allkey $80000058, while if i press FN+F9 the result is $80400066(LAmiga)+$80400012(LAmiga+e)

@Everybody

i solved the problem, on my logitech K520 is simple to have a RAmiga key, i must press func "FN" key+Print(Menu) key, yes i know i have to press two keys but now i have it, however i found another solution setting "rgui" variable in env-archive/usb/hid.keyboard/ and it works very well, these are the code i tried:

'0x00070044' to remap F11 to RAmiga
'0x00070045' for F12
'0x000700E6' for R-ALT
'0x000700E4' for R-CTRL (yes it works also if we see with AllKeys prg the same code for LCTRL and RCTRL)

thanks guys

@SOFISTISOFTWARE
Reopening an old thread that I didn't see until I saw an advertisement for a Logitech K800, backlit wireless, for $20 off and couldn't resist.

The advice to make sure a keyboard has a right-side program key is all well and good, but who would guess some don't? The only thing I worried about was having the same kind of keys between the regular keyboard and the numeric keypad. In desperation after my discovery of that missing key, I googled "keyboard remap Amiga OS4" and that brought me to this life-saving thread and reference to AllKeys. With AllKeys I was able to command RShift^F11 to "C:reboot fast," solving one major problem, but I could have done that with a CLI anyway. What I was concerned about was copying and pasting, probably the things I use RAmiga for the most.

Unfortunately I didn't quite understand what you meant by Print(Menu) so I ended up duplicating your efforts. AllKeys interprets FN^Prt Scr/Sys Req as "Right Amiga" on my keyboard also. So, mainly thanks to you and the guy who wrote AllKeys, I don't have to send my keyboard back.

But there is something in your alternate solution I don't understand. You say to set "rgui" variable in env-archive/usb/hid.keyboard/ to '0x00070044' to remap F11 to RAmiga. I thought that meant I could turn F11 into a substitute for RAmiga, but when I tried it, it didn't work. What do you really mean?

@kilaueabart

Print(Menu) is the key "Print Screen" it has an icon printed on it and it's a menu, so if u want "Right Amiga" key you have to push "FN" and "Print Screen", but as i wrote there are other possibilities, you can assign some other key to "Right Amiga", you have to create a variable called "rgui" in the path env-archive/usb/hid.keyboard, you can create it with notepad or with another text editor, inside the variable you have to write a code that i wrote, example 0x00070044 if you want to remap RightAmiga on F11 and you have to save it. I hope it's clear now

@SOFISTISOFTWARE
Thanks for the very quick response. I tried to reply to it yesterday, but apparently AmigaWorld.net suddenly developed a problem.

It turns out I had understood you correctly the first time, but must have done something wrong so that F11 didn't work as RAmiga. I tried it again yesterday and it works fine. May I ask how you figured out the correct code would be '0x00070044'?

A new puzzle: AllKeys told me as it did you that FN^Print Screen was '80800067 RAmiga,' and I was using it. But since yesterday, FN^Print Screen is consistently '8000006B Menu'! Any idea what happened? I thought maybe it was because RAmiga was already taken by F11, but I removed hid.keyboard/ from usb/ and still got Menu.

@kilaueabart

You have to look at the HID Usage Table for the codes:

http://www.usb.org/developers/devclass_docs/HID1_11.pdf
http://www.usb.org/developers/devclass_docs/Hut1_12v2.pdf

there you'll be able to find the correct codes. AllKeys uses different keys, about the problem with it i can't help you because i don't use it, i'm sorry.

regards
