Hi

Since I updated my SAM460 to update 3 I am having USB errors at booting times

I get two error messages, the first is:

'HUB driver was unable to add the attached device'

And the second message is:

'Unable to reset HUB port device being aborted'

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

@sicky

USB problems here too, but on A4000-Algor :

With 4.1 , the resident stack & classes (Luciferin) booted fine, but since the update, it won`t start WB (the early ss menu fires up if I hold both buttons on the USB-mouse).

Should I disable something on the WB?

I've got those sorts of errors on my A1XE even before the update. Apart from KB&M do you have anything else attached to the Sam USB ports? I have read there is an issue with the Sam USB in the chipset and it's not perfect. Seems all these OS4 machines have some kind of USB problem or another.

But what does your USB log say?

Strange thing is eventually the messages go away and as far as I can tell USB works..... well sort of! I have only keyboard and mouse plugged in via USB sockets at rear of machine.

I will check my USB log later wherever that is!

@Karlos

Just booted my machine again today (for first time) and the errors didn't appear, come to think of it it seems random!

Update:

Have looked at USB inspector and can find nothing unusual or out of place. How do I look at or find logViewer?

Check in the Utilities drawer for a tool called "LogViewer". It has a tab for USB messages.

Owners of Amigaone/Micro, please read and give input:

http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=317

Obviously there -are- working setups.

I hate to keep posting this over and over, but here we are again:

Creative Sound cards = bad
If you still use what is mentioned in the following post, then you are just asking for trouble.

@sicky

A friends mouse has been known to disappear from his Sam and he has to unplug/replug it at times to get it working again.

But for the log you may need to enable all checks in Prefs/USB to get everything. Then once you know you have collected information on failing USB a file will be waiting for you in "T:usb.log".

@wawa

Sure it`s a totally different case (H/W & S/W-wise), but I wanted to avoid opening a new thread as the generic "USB problems since update 3" title covers my problem also.

@all

I just did a fresh install, Update 1, update 2 and them update 3 on my Sam440ep, I had done the install a couple of days ago but my splash screen remained the same as previous updates so wasn't sure update was complete.

Since installing again my mouse and I assume my keyboard no longer work, I have read a few threads saying to amend kicklayout and unplug and plug them in after startup.

There seem to be a few problems when it comes to USB and different on different platforms.

Anyone know the cure for the Sam440ep?

@cha05e90

That's why I tried a complete reinstall, now no mouse movement (frozen)

EDIT: Just tried starting without startup-sequence and both mouse and keyboard work

I've just deleted bootmouse and bootkeyboard and added hid.usdfd and no joy, mouse mouse is still frozen.

Do you know anyone with a Sam440ep with Radeon 9250 with a working kicklayout and if so could I have a copy?

Just to start with.

Put Bootmouse/Bootkeyboard back in.

In S:Startup-Sequence comment out - - ;C:USBCtrl START - - by adding a ;

That should give you mouse & keyboard, but no other useable USB devices.

Make sure in UBoot menu, video is set for PCI.

And try to go from there.

P.S. USBCtrl START turns off Bootmouse/kbd and control is taken by the HID drivers.

On my A1XE, deleting hid.usbfd from Devs:USB/fd froze my system at the Workbench splash screen. I had problems with a KVM which was solved by commenting out the Kicklayout MODULE calls to bootmouse and bootkeyboard. Deleting the modules made no difference so I think commenting them out is enough. Adding hid.usbfd to Kickstart and Kicklayout does not seem to do anything observable for my system. The USB mouse and keyboard work fine via the KVM and the PS/2 mouse and keyboard also work fine at the same time.

What is your UBoot set to for boot mouse and keyboard (assuming the SAMs have UBoot and those boot settings)? Although I use USB devices, mine is set to use the PS/2 devices in UBoot.

Regards
Roy Leith
