Just try to visit "www.t-online.de" with MuiOWB. I think its a quiet good testsite. MuiOWB doesnt show the site correctly. Try also with firefox or OWB.

@jabirulo

myself again X-)

OWB 1.9 2nd attached version doesn't crash when trying to visit URL.

But it stays forever/stucks on sites with lots connections open at same time (4 or more), as it stays for looong time without doing anything, reverted t old/original OWB 1.9 version.

I don't get a GR/DSI with 2nd attached version, will try tomorrow more websites if they work with that version or gets stuck.

But this version stalls in some web pages (images took a lot time to load also that slows down the other tabs of OWB.)

I note the side side effect aswell, also at first start i got a skippable DSI crash that i wasn't able to save (that's my fault!) .. aniway this second binary seems fine in general .. will test it further during the follow days

@ChrisY

Mmm strange, i always found OWB 3.32 as a quite stable version, at the end we test it a lot during the bugs.os4depot era with Joerg

Only amiga make it possible (i mean, we now discuss problems with threaded curl, and all the last pages about it, not about non-working sites, which, pretty possible just works with new core , but just now we on threaded curl).

So kind of like in reaction version ?

@all

In others words and to summorize:

1). Fab's implenetation of the curl , ported to os4 have 2 crashes. One (when first visit a url) are our port specific.

2). Curl by itself (with fab's changes, or default pthreaded curl) have on os4 stange crashe in resolver, which, are os4 / bsdsocket specific.

3). "stalls" in ra-owb, and the same stalls in muiowb with pthreaded (not fab's threadeded, but pthreaded, so, 2nd threaded binary, not first one) mean that threaded curl implementation of the curl itself (initially) , just have some os4 specific problems not only in terms of resolver crash, but also with something else.

What did it mean: anyone who want to help, can just build pthreaded version of curl, without any code from fab, and trying to fix "resolver" problem (i.e. write mail to Joerg to ask how he fix it , read autodocs and so on).

@Chrish_Y

Iam sure you skilled enough to help us to find out the problems. In end of all pthreaded curl then can be used for netsurf as well. I.e. all what we need its just understand why resolver borks after some connections.

Not exactly the same, explain below

Quote:

Problem is a bit different, OWB 3.32 will stalls "only" when you close a tab or the program (even if you have only 1 tab open), it doesn't always happen but when it happen (quite often i can say) the entire GUI will be freezed for many seconds before closing the thing properly.

Your version instead will be stalled (sometimes for what i tested till now) when you have a number ot website (tabs) loading simultaneously ..

So even if the problem seems similar at the end it happen in a different way, btw i need some more time to test it in every circumstance

@kas1e

It's an extra long bank holiday weekend here in the UK because the Queen is coming round for tea or something, so I might have a bit of time to look at it. I've never delved into the libcurl source so I don't expect to be able to figure out what the problem is though!

@kas1e & Fab

I tryed to open a new game on the site:

boardgamearena.com

and on OWB 1.9 it works nicely(not so fast but nicely), than(since its faster) I tryed to do the same on OWB 1.16 under MOS2.7 and get a whole program lock while pressing on start game...

So...that was an issue still present in 1.17 or now its fixed?

If I will reboot machine and than join the started game than it works normally...
so htere was some weird issue to e solved with that? Or maybe webkit core?

Thank you.

It looks like you're mixing stdio's descriptors with bsdsocket.library's sockets... at least, that's what seems by seeing the crashlog posted by Jabirulo.

Make sure the sockets are used on the proper place and not passed to newlib/clib2 functions...

Just my 2 cents.

@diegocr

I'd just come to that conclusion myself, although I'd expect it not to work at all if that was the case.

I've fixed up libcurl so it using bsdsocket.library only (ie. so it is building the same as it would on OS3) but that doesn't seem to have helped. I'm in the process of stripping out anything to do with bsdsocket.library so it is going through newlib only, so we'll see if that makes any difference (edit: it doesn't, just goes via newlib.libary before it crashes)

A-ha! Think I might have got it.

Try this version:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cdyoung/tmp/libcurl-threaded.lha

You can test it with NetSurf by dropping libcurl.so.7 into NetSurf's directory, or wait for kas1e to re-link OWB against the static version.

I got the same here eventually, it took longer to crash though, and quite often just froze.

There's one other thing I can try, but not today, I'm fed up with seeing libcurl for the moment.

Here crash immediately during the loading of the first bookmarked page, anyway any chance asking certain internal OS4 developers ?

I see you, Roman and Daniel alltogheter into the same annoying issue, maybe someone else related to the internals of the system can give us some hints ?

Odd. I could only really get it to crash on Google Image searches (where it's pulling in pictures from different servers and hence doing a lot of DNS lookups)

It needs Olaf or someone to look at where in bsdsocket.library it is crashing to provide some insight. Kas1e has already contacted him so we'll see.

There definitely was some discrepancy in libcurl between building for OS3 and OS4 though, which I've now fixed. There could easily be another problem there which is causing this crash.

Later I want to try another test method, open NetSurf with a blank page by default instead and then load a page .. maybe it doesn't crash immediately .. don't know just to test it

Yep Olaf seems the right person to ask
From yesterday and today i just sent a couple of mail to kas1e but he didn't reply to me yet .. still in waiting

I note aniway some difference between Curl in OWB and Curl in NetSurf .. apart that latest version we are testing now ..

Expecially i note that sometimes OWB (both version) tend to "freeze" for a while during the loading of a page (even for entire minutes sometimes) while NetSurf is more or less always able to load the same page quite instantanely .. this happen on Facebook for example but even on other big or not so big website .. long ago i open a ticket on bugs.os4depot but i really don't know why it happen as no one give to me a real reply nor a fix.. sometimes i have the idea that this happen to me only .. maybe my router .. don't know

There's no magic in the way CURL is being used. On the other hand, it's really a bad idea to compare netsurf and owb on this basis, since netsurf doesn't support javascript and will thus load much less in this regard (that's especially true for pages like facebook).
