I was to update firmware for my SSD harddisk but i had to format it with win7 to be able for the firmware program to recognise it. Anyway i was to put it back in my x1000 and boot from my 1TB normal Sata drive. It booted and the red boot loading meter in x1000 went to the right (loaded fully). However it didnt show the os4 logo nor workbench.

So it have to be i have old os4 system on the 1TB harddrive with old radeon drivers (not HD). But this i didnt know then. I downloaded os4.1 CD and tried to boot from it but it gave errors etc, not strange as its for the old Amigaones and not x1000.

I tried different settings, removed cables etc. One time it looked like the PSU was gone but it was probably the powercable in front (power button). I tried with external PSU. So i fixed the power connector infront and my internal PSU worked :D

Anyway somewhere after trying out os4 cd i couldnt boot anymore. The monitor doesnt get any picture. HD Radeob 6850. I tried also with my older 4650 or what it was called. No picture. No boot. I can power on with the powerswitch in front but not power down the usual way like holding it for 5 seconds.

So the boot doesnt show at all. I think its called CFE or something. Should it show even if no drives attached ? I think so.

Help please. Its dead, the power goes on and fans are working. Also the network leds are showing.

I removed some cards and memory and put back. Could it be that CFE broken got stuck or something.

@Kicko

I think the problem is that the AmigaOS 4.1 install cd does not have the radeon HD drivers, get to Amiga treff next week and we can help you fix it or pål kan help you fix it.

I think there was a recovery ISO you should have burned on the HD.

@Kicko

The CFE should display, if it does not I do not think its the CFE, anyway you have a recovery mode.

Did you remember to connect the power cables to the graphic card?

Is graphic card correctly plugged in to motherboard?

You might have broken your RAM, you need to be careful when removing or inserting any electronic component, you should be grounded when doing so, or at least make shore you don't have a electric charge when touching anything.

Sorry to read of this. You must be really annoyed.

When I get an issue I always try the obvious, but then stop and wait a while. I then map out my actions that led to the fault and work backwards. Also I always ask for help from the manufacturer or supplier.

Have you raised a ticket with Amigakit?
Did you post on the x1000 forum at Hyperion?

Okay after my initial shock at reading the subject and confirmed content one thing immediately comes to mind. Do you have a serial null modem cable? And has your X1000 been setup with a serial port? If so time to setup a debug terminal and look for CFE output. Just as we did with UBoot.

Now, I think before you try anything else is to contact Hyperion about the issue or more so A-EON. They may want to take the board and check it out. Note that in this case you'll likely have to pay postage for the transfer so make sure you do as many safe tests as you can yourself if it comes to that.

About the CD. Didn't you receive an X1000 OS4 CD? If you downloaded an A1 OS4 CD you should be able to download an X1000 OS4 CD as well. Yes I know what happens when you boot the wrong CD and see it crash.

Oh are you an X1000 "publican" with the X1000 FC Public edition?

If your firmware was working fine it's unlikely for it to die AFAIK. However you may try moving the jumper to rescue mode and see if you can boot from the rescue firmware. Making sure the write protect is still on. But this shouldn't be needed.

You could try the extenral PSU again. And make sure the VGA cards work if you have spare PC to test in. But best way is serial terminal I think.

With a machine like the X1000 with an awesome price tag it doesn't feel good when it stops working. I could understand if it makes your skin crawl. I had some hardware trouble when setting up mine at first and now it's fairly stable. I hope to see some success later in this thread.

@kicko:
sorry to see. also hard to think you might have fried anything. this danger ig greatly exaggerated. even though i wouldnt advise you not to be cautious. cheer up. it must be something trivial, like missing driver or wrong bios setting.

I didnt know/think about the older gfx driver when i first connected it. If i was i would put in the old gfx card. Now its too late. Damn me :)

I dont have any recovery CD for os4. Doesnt come with package. I dont know if theres recovery ISO on the harddrive, maybe i just missed it. But i have the harddrive that come with the package (without HD readeon drivers). That was the one that loaded full boot and didnt come to the OS as to modern gfx card (6850). I also have a backup of latest system on usb stick. There is no ISO on Hyperion page except the amigaos 4.x and thats normally for old amigaones.

I use the old radeon i think its 4650 so i dont need much power (just for trying out).

Bought new clock battery. Tried some i had at home too. No difference.

I moved the pin from pin 1-2 (bios) to 2-3 (secondary bios) without difference.

I havent contacted Hyperion nor AmiKit yet.

Next thing will be to borrow DDR2 ram from a friend to try with.

I do have a serial port. I ordered it in the x1000 package. I dont know yet how to use it but i do have a laptop with win7. Maybe there is a seriell -> usb cable and some software ?

question1: should CFE show up even if the memory is bad.
question2: should CFE show up even if no sata cables are connected.
Just so i know how bare/naked i can have the computer and still have something shown on the monitor.

@Kicko

sorry to hear about your problem. The X1000 needs to have drives connected to boot. Also if you are using the original AmigaOS 4.1 CD this doesn't have the gfx drivers for your 6xxxx card. As suggested by others please post for help on the X1000 forum.

"I also have a backup of latest system on usb stick."

Can you use the usb stick backup to burn a bootable OS4 cd using your laptop? That should be possible if you have a full version of Roxio or similar cd writing software.

On my X1000 there was a "recovery ISO" icon left out on the upper right side of the screen. This would include the Radeon HD driver installed on your system.

I can check this when I get home

The PSU might also have stopped working; you just have to test one thing at time, until you get CFE up and running.

Sorry to hear this, but like many I always want to upgrade to the latest update mostly firmware, even incompatible one, that way I broke a CD burner.
I try to follow this now : "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Sorry to hear about your problem, think before do which I try to learn. An up-to-date CD would fix this and you'll get help from Hyperion, I'm sure. Good luck.

@ Kicko

I know it's stressful when any of our miggies I down but don't worry as I'm sure this is just software related and once you get the proper setup CD with latest radeon drivers it will be back to normal !

If the SATA cables are not connected the X1000 boot logo and CFE boot menu should show, and then you should end up in CFE shell.

(As long as you have a supported graphic card.)

My guess is PSU, RAM or CPU fan, or the graphic card is not properly seated.

The PSU is high up on the list of things that can go wrong.

@Kicko

The CFE should show up, in my case after 20 seconds, following the boot logo.

If you have registered as a FC user on the Hyperion site with your serial number you should see X1000 downlodas when you log it.

But it seems poor you didn't even get an OS4 CD. Did you get instructions in place? I got a CD with my beta board but no instructions of any sort.

My machine has refused to boot with CFE acting dead but this was after CFE crashed and couldn't recover from a hard reset. Not likely to happen from cold start.

What do you mean by this: what other brand and wattage PSU did you hook up to the X1000 apart from the recommended PSU it is originally supplied with? After you tried this, CFE did not display on powering on the computer?

Please don't go swapping out memory without good reason. The X1000 uses high quality HyperX 1066mhz memory and there is no merit in changing hardware without a good reason.

Swapping hardware out for non recommended hardware could cause more problems.

He got an OS 4.1 CD but the recently released RadeonHD drivers are not distributed on it as they are a separate download archive from A-EON.

Well that's a different story then. According to Kicko he has no recovery CD so to me that would include any CD included.

It may involve putting in a lesser VGA card but to me any OS4 CD included counts as a recovery CD.
