Well, then there it is. The new Amigas are custom power pc boards (just like the old classic were custom boards) and the price is what it is.

Personally, I didn't even think we would be here in 2013. I thought for sure the Amiga would be dead, and I would be typing on a Mac right now. But we have new hardware and ppc amigaos. As a life long Amiga user, I could not be happier.

Thanks for the info on the Cyrus board, I will definately have the money saved up by then, and I look forward to the options for a complete system. (Not a fan of building my own from a motherboard these days ).

@amigakit

I do not doubt that. The general question is what sense make "custom designs" in 2013. But that is a question everyone has to answer himself.

Well Amiga users tend to keep their machines for up to 10 years - may users are still using their XE here. In contrast in the PC world, where hardware is discarded every 3 years.

So from a users point a view, an AmigaOne is long term investment, especially if you annualise the cost over the years.

I guess the question that needs to be asked here is. "Is that by choice or because of the cost?"

I'm not judging it's merely a question that I'm curious about.

amiga users do not have any choice. the brand is dead. but even if you refer to amigaone (os4) users, neither they have any more alternatives. how would they update their systems more frequently if they are rare, hard to get hold of (x1k distribution practice) and inaffordable? you cant blame it on thier habits, it is tue result of circumstances, aeon has ist share in creating.

AmigaOne X1000 are not hard to get hold of. They are in stock now and available from a direct purchase on our webstore. Also Alinea Computer in Germany stocks them.

When Cyrus arrives for consumers in a year or so, we will sell it with a separate sound card.

The SOC doesn't have sound in it and there is no Southbridge in Cyrus.

Amigas do not "need" audio on board any more. It was said in Amiwest that audio drivers exist now for RadeonHD cards audio component (IIRC).

Another alternative is to use the announced audio card when/if xorro/pcie version appears or some other pcie card. (and xena can do audio processing as well, but needs xorro card to get anything out.)

@Comi

With previous motherboard designs from either company people complained about lack of onboard drivers at early shipment ,it seemed at that time that plain ppc motherboard would be the wise thing.One may argue that hardware vendors learned that lesson.

@Rob

"Are you sure about that?"

I think I read it somewhere... I'm trying to find it again....

@Name

PowerAMIGAone P3040
PowerAMIGAone P5020
PowerAMIGAone P5040

or AMIGAoneX/3040 etc....

another thought... If I compare to the powerhouse of the 90's 060/50...

AMIGAoneX38 (nemo system)
AMIGAoneX60 (5020 system)
etc...

btw.P5020 example price about 60% cheaper than PA6T ?

@KimmoK

The documentation is available but I don't think anyone has started a driver. There's plenty of supported audio cards so it's unlikely unless someone with the skills has their own reason for porting.

so, if a user has an AmigaOne no need to by Acube products or A-Eon products...
But from this point of view, it's the end of Acube and A-Eon: their make investiment and user don't buy because have already a long term machines..

Don't worry, Eyetech apparently equipped their products with a limited-lifespan chip

Yes, but Eyetech boards, being broken by design, means even the triggering of such a lifespan switch would fail. Heh.
