+1

I hope I manage to donate too ASAP.

Odyssey would be like killer app for www on low end HW like on my SAM.
(most likely TW will anyway be needed for some things and should continue to evolve as well)

Also ... Odyssey is currently the only change to get decent browser for AROS. And we need decent browser on every system meant for joe-the-half-average-user.
(now having daydreams of how insanely fast Odyssey would be on x86 tablets...)

There are VERY few users that actually USE their Amiga NG systems in a real way. For example my favorite quote I read on this very board "I take my amiga out of the closet, update to the latest version of os4 and back in the closet it goes" (or something like that)

I don't see the point in buying a machine for it in that case. My MorphOS machine is on 24/7 and it's logged into IRC all the time, I use it to listen to podcasts/live radio while I work, use SimpleMail for my email (always open) have it logged into Instant Messengers and do some web surfing on it. It's my second machine (I use my Windows PC to do work on) but it's always on right next to me and gets used daily. Plus, running it on a Mini G4 it only consumes around 60watts, about the same as a lightbulb so I don't mind leaving it on all day/night. Much easier if I want to surf the web quickly rather than waiting for Windows 8 to boot up.

+1, don't know where that statement came from but I can tell you my X1000 is used every day and if I'm away from home for whatever reason I miss it ! nothing like coming home and greeting your little kids and turning on your favourite computer/OS.....ah I'M HOME

I was a little worried about the fact that the code could be hard coded for Morphos so be harder to port, and the fact of the size of the bounty being asked for was going to hard to hit (and still is). But in the end I just thought for his work on MuiOWB and helping out the community so far he deserves some money so I donated a small amount, when Christmas is over with I might donate again.

@

A couple of questions.

If/when MUI-OWB is open sourced will the MUI parts that may not be in AmigaOS be included?

Will the UI need much work/time to be compatible with AOS 4.2?

Would it take much work to use he standard AOS UI tools instead of MUI?

Just questions.

I dont either.

(Edited by Moderator for being Off Topic) ........ we could have had interested apps and games for os4 native.

(Like Broadblues cool Sketchblock for example)

Last warning to everyone in this thread about posting messages that are "Off Topic" and creating further conflict between users different AmigaNG systems.

Also, criticizing the moderation and Abuse Reporting system here is against the Terms of Service agreement and will not be tolerated on the forums. If you have complaints about any moderator actions, or specific Abuse Reports that you feel were approved in error, bring your complaints to one of the Moderators, or other Staff members in PMail for review and reversal, if the Abuse Report against you was not valid, per the Terms of Service. The Moderators and Staff here carefully review every Abuse report before approving or denying them, and only those that are well earned are approved, as we do not take these Abuse Reports lightly.

Ignoring this request can (and probably will) result in an instant temporary restriction of your forum posting privileges.

I doubt it, as MUI is not Odyssey, but given that MUI-OWB is allready working on AmigaOS 4.1 I doubt it will be a problem.

Given that 4.2 is not released it's hard to say a definetly yes/no as the final specifications are unknown but I can't see any reason why a program working on 4.1 would fail on 4.2 for GUI reasons.

If you mean reaction gui instead of MUI, then don't even bother, it might be possible, (with alot of rewritting) but why would you?

@Signal

I doubt very much that any part of MUI will be included in the Open Source code of Odyssey, but I am not a programmer (yet), so someone else with more knowledge should answer this question.

Fab appears to think that it will not be too difficult for any other programmer to create a working version of Odyssey for AmigaOS4.x, or AROS, by using the code he is planning to Open Source with this bounty request, but his idea of what equals "not too difficult" coding work and what that term means to some other programmers might be two very different things.

There are certainly many fewer talented programmers in our Amiga community these days than there were in years past, but I think that there are enough still left to accomplish this task of creating an AmigaOS4.x and AROS versions of the Odyssey web browser, after Fab releases the source code, when/if this bounty is completed.

Probably no one will be able to accurately answer your questions (except Fab regarding what parts of the MUI code will/won't be released with his source code), until after the bounty is finished and a few AmigaOS4.x third party programmers have had time to review the source code that is released.

It would boost confidence if a select few AOS4 and AROS programmers could see the source now and give their endorsement that an AOS4 / AROS port "would not be too much work".

@Xmas87 & Signal & AmigaDave

No need to check for sources at all, we already port 1.9 version of odyssey (that its "muiowb") to os4 before, and i already port version 1.16 of odyssey lately, as well as deadwood port to aros 1.16 version even to zune with all zune's kludges.

There no need to check if it can be ported or not: of course it can, its all welknown and many times repeated everywhere. There is no stop factors except of free time to port and tests of it.

In other words, do not fear to donate to bounty. It will only mean that odyssey on aros and os4 will have all the fancy things mos's odyssey have. Maybe not everything 100% , but on 98% for sure.
