| There is any type of viruses from classics or from other os's that could effect our OS4 systems surfing to internet? There is any antivurus for OS4 machines?
I ask this because, it is some days that I have very stranage behaviours on my machine. If I would be using a W$ machine I would be sure that is a virus, but under OS4!
thanks |

I never heard of any Amiga virus that used a web browser or other internet software as an attack vector.
There is no anti virus software for OS4 and I've never even tried running OS3.x anti virus software on OS4. The last instance of a threat I heard of was around 14-15 years ago when an infected file was accidentally uploaded to Aminet but you'd have had to have downloaded, un-archived and run said piece of software.
What is the strange behaviour you're experiencing. |

There are a few programs floating out there left over from years ago; my last encounter was 2 years ago with a HP Printer driver that did all kinds of crazy crap. It affected bot OS3.9 and OS4.1. Best to stay with main stream sites. |

try replacing your battery, while you are doing it pull out all cards and the ram, clean the slots with a small brush and replace them. also clean the cpu heatsink. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

I think it would be nice if we had framework ready for NG viruskillers. One day some idiot will anyway do virus for NG systems. (and IMHO, better memory protection would also help there) Last edited by KimmoK on 14-Apr-2014 at 08:01 AM. Last edited by KimmoK on 14-Apr-2014 at 07:36 AM.

That is interesting.
Perhaps not related, who knows, but I got a lot of "no DNS" errors when trying to view the amigans.net link and associated ones on that page.
I do wonder about the Heartbleed, apart from still not getting it after a simple explanation, as to why a server would be programmed to do what it is told. The server should be telling the client what it will return, not the other way around. And as for not checking length, I can't believe people stil write code that doesn't. |

Why it isn't compatible? Works fine under MorphOS...
Some new demos have occasionally old viruses even today. For example HNY96 pops up annually or so :) And old collections contain them quite likely.

Within my "polymorph.library" work I have been looking at various "AntiViral" techniques as well...
maybe I should provide preprocessing specific for antiviral purposes seperate from the post-processing for alien executables? |

The library doesn't open. Something goes wrong in the initialisation routine. I wanted to run MonAM on OS4 to find out why but that doesn't work either. Should check out the open routine in MonAM to see if anything shows up. |

That sounds like something I was involved in, but that was ages ago and went nowhere. The old xvs library would not work on my A1XE OS4. I don't recall all of the details now.
Apparently none of them had an OS4 machine back then so I was going to do the testing for them. Someone did send me a file, but no luck there either. IIRC, it turned out that the programmers had moved on and weren't that interested in returning to help out. Sigh.... Once an Amigan, always an Amigan, eh?
Where did you find this thread? I was just now all over that site and could not find any threads. I also noticed that nothing seems to be dated on that site any more._________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

Yeah, I guess not in todays climate. Linux provides the free software spirit. The VHT site is still there so if the software isn't updated they could at least provide the source. Haha, the source to a virus detector, yeah right. Site last updated a year ago.

I just discovered that the iBrowse Cache Browser cannot search in contents. Why tease me with a working gadget!? But I found it again myself:

LOL. I almost replied in the thread. |

Yes and No.
Lett me explain.
If we think of the traditional virus a programs spread trow USB or E-Mail or floppy discs and so on, then the answer is no.
As for other types of attacks Spyware it is possible that some one might try, it often hard to know when you are being Spyed on as there is no damage or symptoms, and its low risk hack.
Ad-ware is not really a virus its software bundled whit other software for advertisement. We have not seen this on AmigaOS, its pretty common on windows. Its unlikely that anyone is going to do this on AmigaOS, OS4Depot.net is being administrated and so I think this type of software will not be allowed.
So what type of attacks can we Amiga users and developers expect, well there is a lot of programs being ported from Linux, FTP and HTTP servers, this applications might have security holes that are known to a hacker, we have also ported over a number of script languages, and as there are many types of script viruses there might be possible to get a script virus from Linux.
What is a more common problem this days are not from viruses, but hackers who monitor and try to intercept communication between you the user and the server, in order to get your login username and password.
Most hacks are not targeted at the user, but the server, what they do is try to get your HTTP cookies, and other things that is used to identify you as a user. Another internet problem is unknown proxy servers, hackers use proxy server for two things hide and to steal, hackers uses Proxy server to monitor all in and out going traffic, maybe you are European like me who like to see a movie trailer from the USA, that only Americans can see, and you try to spoof your location, in order to gain access. While your doing that some is or might be trying to steal your user identity.
Back in 1980/1990's people wrote viruses for fame, and some write viruses to make life hard for the software pirates.
This days is people have different motives for now its more about getting access to your user account, sell your user accounts or take user credit from your account, and so on.
And hacker group anonymous who did it to take down companies that they did not like, hack attacks as type of demonstration, large company web pages and PS3 network where forced to shutdown for days and months.
So in other words, internet security yes, Common virus that infect exe files no. Spyware maybe.
Anyway we have not seen any complaint about losing data or logins so on, we can assume we are not being targeted.
Whit the exception of the spam we see in the forums from time to time.

From what I can tell the site update only refers to them deleting files which are not Amiga. That is fine that they now only want to be Amiga related, but nothing else seems to be updated.

Oh, I thought that you were referring to a thread on the Virus Help Denmark site. You mean I spent an hour searching VHD for nothing?
VHD did have a forum, but it seems to have been thrown out with the bath water. I wonder if the discussion I had with them about XVS was on Yahoo. Charlene from the Canadian site is who I talked with the most. She is a jewel.
I am pretty sure it was Georg who sent me that newer XVS file, then gave up. My memory has slipped some these last few years so I could be wrong._________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

Try dissabling workbench startup items one at a time. debug log should help too. Also could you confirm the platform your using. I have seen similar on the blizzardppc and I'm trying to narrow it down.
