Hello fellow Amigans!

To celebrate our 1st anniversary issue, we have launched the new, official website of RETRO PLANET.

We have also decided to freely publish the full content of both interviews we have took with Mr. Trevor Dickinson (of A-EON) and from ACube, in their originail format (in english).

The interview from T.D/A-EON can be found HERE (was featured 1 year ago, in our 1st issue).

The Interview from ACube can be found HERE (was featured a couple of months ago).

In the future, we expect to release more interviews in their original format through our website, so don't forget to bookmark us!

Also, note that the site is still under graphic redesign and a updated version will soon follow.

Thank you.

@Petah

Is that really necessary? For comparisons sake, microsoft.com has 533 Errors, 470 warning(s).

@Cool_amigaN

Congratulations on reaching 1 year.

@petah:

That checker seems pretty worthless, it found 61 Errors, 3 warning(s) on the site map of my site. All of which are things that would just bloat the document and don't cause any problems with any browser.

It also seems to depend on which version of HTML it is checked against. Eg. many errors appear when checking as HTML 4.01 which don't appear when checking as V2.0. It seems that changes to the HTML spec have been made without preserving proper compatibility. Eg. changing elements from optional to mandatory is a broken design. It's not reasonable to expect every one of the billions of pages on the Internet to be rewritten and reuploaded every time the spec is changed.

Thank you all for your comments.

I don't believe that the errors affect the website's functionality, but we will look into it.

In the meantime, hope you liked the interviews.

After all, that's the main topic of interest for most of us I believe, aside the technical aspects when building a website. We put both Trev and ACube under our microscope and asked them all the difficult questions that we thought.

@Cool_amigaN

The built-in translator on Google Chrome suffices for English speaking people to read it.

Without looking at your site I couldn't say but such attitudes are why webbrowsers end so bloated and buggy, having to deal with broken html is a major difficulty. Some attributes are also required for accessabilty. You may also have not specified a DOCTYPE thus it might be parsing the wrong version of html see below.

[edit]
I just looked at your site, Minuous your html is seriously broken, the releases page whilst being 4.01 transitioanl as far I can see doesn't not even render in AWeb. (and AWeb is near 100% compliant on that standard) I would head those errors and warnings.

A correctly formed html socument will specify the html version on the at the start of the document. This enables browsers to parse it correctly.

@petah

IMHO it's unhelpful and downright rude to posts valiadtion info unless the thread topic is why doesn't my website work properly?

@thread

Read the interviews very interesting reads.

It renders fine in AWeb of course, I have just tested again to confirm this...

My HTML book is over 100 pages and doesn't mention DOCTYPE anywhere. What a useless book. But anyway, upon doing some further research, it does seem to be part of the standard so I will add it to the top of the pages.

(I also found this, though, which does makes it seem rather pointless: "Because browsers have to support all existing content on the Web, there’s no reliance on the doctype to tell them which features should be supported in a given document.")

Also found this: "There are three versions of HTML still in regular use around the Internet:

HTML 3.2
HTML 4.0
HTML 4.01

And some might argue that a fourth version is the "no-DOCTYPE" version. This is often called quirks mode and refers to HTML documents that don't have a DOCTYPE defined and so end up displaying quirkily in different browsers."

So it seems that omitting the DOCTYPE is the only way to get quirks mode. However I want HTML 4.01 Transitional rather than quirks mode, so will add a DOCTYPE. Hopefully this won't break older browsers such as AMosaic...?
