Still, I believe it is pin compatibke with P3041 so it is possible to do "the switch"... In that case, X5000 would not be neccessary.
I think this would pay off, instead of 2 different designs, only 1 would be needed - it would be faster than P5020 and P5040 and would have Altivec.

T2080 is a smaller package with a lower pin count. 25x25mm and 896 pins compared to P3041 with 35x35mm and 1295 pins.

I think that perhaps you read "The T2080 processor is primarily intended to succeed Freescale’s successful P3041 and P2041 mid-range series of quad-core" in the description and misinterpreted it as meaning they were pin compatible.
