Yes! I partecipated the survey.
They calculated approximatively amount of money for the design project and prototyping first 5 motherboard in about 55,000 dollars.
At this very moment they are creating a no profit organization and need to register it, in order to start with the crowdfunding in the next months.
Things are advancing slowly but steady.
I will donate for this prototyping crowdfunding. Any Amigans here who want donate too?
BTW
The PPC Laptop project guys are also searching for the most reliable internet platform site to collect the money for prototyping.
I suggested them Kickstarter site, but it does not seem me to match perfectly their project, as theirs is just prototyping at this stage, while on Kickstarter, at the end of collect, they should also sell the complete motherboards to the "donors" who became at same time "purchasers" too.
So I am wondering if suggesting them Indiegogo platform then.
It seems to me that Indiegogo is more flexible and finances also early stage projects as prototyping, but I do not know precisely how it works this crowdfunding platform...
Do you think Indiegogo is better than Kickstarter for a project in early stage?
Any other suggestion for a different platform for collecting money? _________________ "When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell." (J.L. Gassée, former CEO of Apple France and chief of devs of Mac II-fx, interviewed by Amazing Computing, Nov 1996). |

It's intesting that some are project team members.
Seems that there is a prototype, btw.

Eh, we've had a team make several prototypes of an entire new computer including a modernized 68K CPU and that went nowhere. I'll get excited when I see their Kickstarter page.

Well, this is a little different. Its an NG project, and those have a history of actual production. _________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

More accurately, this is NOT an "Amiga project" of any generation. It's a "Linux project" that we could benefit from._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

Then the odds are even lower. Unless a-eon is involved then I don't see hyperion biting the hand that feeds them by supporting competing hardware.Last edited by CodeSmith on 02-Oct-2016 at 11:32 PM.

Question is wether Hyperion wants to look shortterm or midterm (for longterm they need to look outside of PPC).
It's really a bit like not really supporting OS4.1 running in emulation instead of "forcing" users to run a crippled version intended for real Amigas in a heavier than needed emulator.
Well in the end this laptop will turn out either vapor, or Trevor buying a bunch and selling them with a heavy markup. _________________ - We don't need good ideas, we haven't run out on bad ones yet - blame Canada |

there hasnt ever been any "official" interest expressed in this project to my knowledge. no "amiga" "company" can be held responsible. this thread is simply another example of "dreaming & hoping" by some indiviuals, who like to discuss such on forums..Last edited by wawa on 04-Oct-2016 at 01:44 AM.

What competing hardware? I wasn't aware there was laptop hardware OS4 could compete with.
In any case they can support non-AEON hardware. They have in the past. They do now. And at one stage there was an OS4 netbook which was a possibility. |

I don't think so either, somnething newer is certainly needed.

| I just skimmed over the proposal so I may have missed it: is there are technical need that is driving this initiative or does it fall more into the "because we can" category?

No.

"Because we can" remains to be seen.
A lot to be proven there. |
