just found this little article funny about CIA doc only recently being relased, which is quite a nice read about how useful and great the Amiga was for them back in the day but they for what ever reason orginal published these files with the price omitted, they have since revealed the price. But start your conspiracy theory, did commodore and the U.S. Government have closer ties than what's being revealed? Is Amiga from alien tech!

@amigang

I guess any agency that does investigation of crime, will most likely have access to wide range of computers and operating systems.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Yeah, pretty much this. Anyone who wants to get access to various non-PC filesystems is going to want to buy hardware to cope with it. Up until the likes of the Catweasel and so on, it would have been very hard to drag files off Amiga floppies without original hardware. I imagine even now that there's going to be big box Amigas lying around in various offices connected to intelligence and law enforcement.

The batteries have probably all since leaked onto the motherboard, mind...

Yeah, DoomMaster was right about the A2000 being MIL spec.

Did anyone actually read the article? :)

The CIA is actually justifying continued usage of the Amiga using all the reasons that made the Amiga stand out from its competition back in that day... It had nothing to do with information gathering and everything to do with information sharing.

@amigang

That's interesting to read how the Amiga gave them new imaging and video capabilities that they wouldn't have had otherwise.

I have no idea if they did that, I only know that the report wasn't about that. It was about "why the CIA should buy more Amigas." ;)

@EDanaII

The first link speaks about some information being covered in said document that was already public knowledge, the price they paid for their amigas, so to speak, which was subsequently revealed after someone inquiries.We all knew the text was about amigas usefulness at the time.
