Dear all,

I'm probably the only Amiga User/ Fan in Korea or even all of Far East Asia. So, I only got this forum left.

I bought a Sam 460ex, with a Radeon HD 1MB, 2 GB RAM and 160 GB HD from an Italian banker named Luigi.

The Amiga arrived with heavy damages on its Commodore case, but works fine after replacing the hard disc.

He put in a legal version of Amiga OS 4.1 update 2. After update 5 the screen goes blank.
Please check out my video:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ip18fuwi2v2wpx1/VID_20150410_234554.mp4?dl=0

U-Boot is using the Radeon card for starting up the Kickstart. After the kickstart takes off, the screen for onboard VGA goes blank.

I connected the Radeon card on HDMI and onboard with VGA.

I ordered Update 8 ages ago, but shipment time from Europe to Korea takes 4/5 weeks due a very ruthless anti spy law by the Korean government imposing the North, while China imports imitations.

I'm thankful for any idea how to fix it...

Cheers,

Manu san

@TWamiga

You ordered update 8? Do you mean OS4 Final Edition? There is no update 8, only 6, then FE.

Maybe you could have a look at the graphics drivers in DEVS:Monitors (I think).
You could try to make a copy of those files from update 4.
Then install update 5 but do NOT reboot.
Then copy the monitor files from update 4 over the new from update 5 in DEVS:Monitors.
Then reboot and see if update 5 can boot with the update 4 drivers.

If this works you could probably install update 6 afterward.

But Final Edition would be the best to install, if you could order that. Maybe you already did.

@TWamiga

Two things to try.

(1) Try connecting the Radeon via VGA or DVI. The older driver may not work with HDMI .
(2) There is a bug in update 5 for the on board video PCIGraphics.card file.
you have to use the original version to boot with the onboard video card.
It is on the Amiga OS 4.1 update2 CD in the System/Kickstart directory .

I think also that the FE works if not wanted to make it step by step.

(My updating stopped when the "New buggy" Filesystem was abandoned)

Works fine here;)

Out of others you tried and decided this was the best?

Did he have a brother named Mario?

That is an interesting fact about the marktr for Sams.

Now you've lost me. What is this Commodore case? Was it put into an old Amiga case or some new fanged design with a C= logo?

And I take it you did incremental updates from 2 to 5? Your video is too big for me. So is there any image if you switch from onboard to Radeon? Or blank on both outputs?

Sounds ok so far, i'd expect the video output is switching from onboard to the Radeon at that point.

As mentioned, it's possible that the hdmi port is not supported. Best bet is to try the dvi port.

It would also be useful to know which radeon card you have, in case there are known issues with a particular model (i doubt it though).

Good luck.

PS Welcome to Amigaworld. Don't take the above pedantic corrections personally: a few people seem to have missed that English isn't your first language, and not realised how off-putting such a response can be.

Hello Korean friend

First try the VGA connected to your SAM and then copy monitor drivers from update 4 to Upd.5 so you can test if it works.

Hope you have the best luck and when it's done tell me how is going.

Another aspect to take in matter is that Amiga Ones/SAMs doesn't support HDMI or DVI I think I could not be correct but I think this.

Thank you for staying true to the Amiga that's a win for us and for all the computing world too.

I am just noticing from your Sig that you have a Radeon HD6670.
If you dont have Radeon HD driver 1.0 or later then it wont work with this video card.
You would need to purchase the newer Radeon HD driver.

Did you use the Radeon HD 6670 video card or the onboard video to update from Amiga OS 4.1 update 2 ?

Sorry to hijack your thread, but would it be possible that you could dig some information about Asian/Taiwanse Amiga clones?

There were two of them :

REC Wonder TV A6000 1998
New Star A5A00 1996

Good spot!

I'd bet that the he had the version 1.x driver installed then the update from 4 to 5 overwrote it.

If that's the case then his FE CD should enable him to boot and reinstate the newer drver once it arrives.

@TWamiga

I guess it is a driver issue. Wait for your FE copy and install from scratch, or use your onboard gfx card.

Ps.
I still can not understand why uboot is not giving an output through your onboard VGA, but only on Radeon's hdmi.

I placed my order at Amiga Kit, but again...a shipment from outside Korea takes weeks to months due to customs officers procedure speed.

So, I cannot get whether Amiga OS 4.1 final update, or Raedon drivers, because of the slow shipment.

Unless I think the right officer to bribe...I will have to wait even longer...awful country!

@utri007

Well, Petro told me that Amiga Technologies had the idea to sell themselves to to either Samsung or Acer.

Koreans see no value in foreign stuff, so they made a terrible low offer (Samsung), he couldn't accept.

Acer had an Italian CEO at that time who only saw value in combining Acer's laptops with Italian luxury brand. In Taiwan he's still considered worse CEO of the century.

I'm applying at Giga-Byte, Asus, MSI, Fujitsu, Toshiba based on a Amiga, AROS and Morph OS business proposal. Fears of Lenovo, Huawei and Xiaomi will take over the world market are going around.

So far, G-Style is proofing the possibility of making a new notebook series, but they barely have engineers who know anything besides Windows and Android.

I doubt they will take the money to invest into Western programmers. Giga-Byte's job offer was 900 USD gross a month as a global business director. Still more than the Chinese pay...

I'm not Korea, I'm German, but I lived over 10 years in Asia (Japan and Taiwan mostly). A Russian freight forwarding in Hamburg made me a job offer to work in Korea.

After knowing Korea better (particular its IT sector) I just want to get out of here.

1. Koreans are super racist and single lingual.
2. Koreans only buy and use Korean brands. Nobody besides my few friends ever heard about Linux. iOS has only 4.5% market share in Korea.
3. Koreans have a huge problem with being innovative, visionary and creative. I visited the Samsung R&D department of their electronic wing of their groups. Most software development is done by Google. The US high-tech giant controls a nation here.
4. Although the EU signed an FTA with Korea, they charge all non-Korean items with high import taxes. I met the EU officials here. A bunch of failed East-European politicians, who have no backbone to stand up and fight for EU interests. Although the "gifts" by Korean government and corporations are indeed very generous.

I tried...doesn't make any difference. I tried Lubuntu and its drivers just work fine, although Lubuntu doesn't start after install. During install I can use the HDMI port.

Try this to get the Sam booting from the onboard vide,

Boot your Sam with your AmigaOS4.1 update 2 CD with the onboard vga video connected to your monitor.
Select the option to load the Workbench. Once Workbench loads copy the PCIGraphics.card file from the CD System/Kickstart
directory to the System:Kickstart directory on your hard drive .Remove the OS 4.1 update 2 CD and reboot with the onboard video.
