OS3.9 Boingbag 2 issues

Hi there.

I have a problem here... I installed a new 120gb Seagate 2.5" hard drive to A1200 and partitioned 2000mb boot partition for it using Cloanto's updated OS3.1 install disk.* I did set max transfer to "0x1FE00" and my A1200 has KS3.1 ROMS.

Next I installed OS3.1 from original unaltered floppies and registered MagicWB2.0 as base OS and then used Amiga Technologies Q-Drive to install OS3.9. Everything went fine up to Boingbag 1 but then Boingbag 2 caused me this proglem: it installed fine but after reboot I keep getting error: 8000 0004 task: 0800C548 over and over again. :

What is causing this and is there a way around this?

It's funny because I am pretty much completelly sure that the previous OS3.9 install had both boingbags installed with romupdates as well and I never ran into this problem. The only difference this time was that I skipped installing OS3.5 which was also on my system before. Surely this shouldn't cause this problem?

Please help.

* Why so big boot partition? Well, my previous hd has 500mb boot partition and it wasn't enough for AmiKit which I am planning to install for this one too. To be sure that such thing wont happen again, I decided to go for XXXL sized boot partition this time.

@Karpow

3.5 isn't needed. I have installed 3.9 BB1 and BB2 a few times without 3.5 first.

You can try to boot with no startup and run snoopdos, then execute the startup-sequence and see where it stops.

Okay so your boot partition is about 2GB? Not that big. Any size up to 4GB is fine for the first partition.

What's you mask setting? 0x7FFFFFFF should be fine.

It's hard to know what is crashing as AmigaOS has always had a major deficiency by telling you a useless task pointer and not the task name! But that 8000 0004 is an illegal instruction so I suspect it could be a CPU library.

What are you A1200 specs? Do you have an 040? If so you will need 68040 libraries installed. The ones for your accelerator if you have one.

OS3.9 can be installed fresh. It's made to install over a blank volume. Nothing else needed.

Well, I guess 2GB boot partition is enough for the rest of my life, hehe. :) AmiKit hepas over 500mb of it anyway, when installed. Futhermore some people have said that boot partition shouldn't be bigger than 2GB, so I decided to play it safe.

Mask setting is the one you mentioned. I haven't changed it.

Sorry, I forget to mention exact specs of my A1200. Right now I have ACA1233 installed on it, so it's 68030/40Mhz with 128 mb fast ram.

I needed to install OS3.1 in order to get Q-Drive working. I also decided to install MagicWB in order to get MagicWB icons displayed in correct colors.

@Hillbillylitre

Never used SnoopDos before. I try it out if everything else fails. :) Thanks for the tip.

@Karpow

You can run SnoopDos when you want in all situations to see when and what is the problem. I can see I've put snoopdos in Startup-Sequence right after setpatch with ";" on front, just in case of problems in the startup.

There is a 32-bit limit on the partition size so 2GB is a safe bet.

Your 68030 should be fine but it is a new one so I can't be sure on that. Does it come with an install disk or drivers you must download? If so that would need to be installed after the OS I think.

I do recall with BB2 that it didn't seem to be a clean install. I installed OS3.9. BB1 which was fine. Then IIRC BB2 had a problem as it didn't leave the files clean and I had to clean it up. Forget the details.

But also, try this at the start of your Startup-Sequrnce.
Set Echo On

It doesn't have to be as neat.

@realize

Neither would I. My ACA 1231 would crash like clock work with Miami or Roadshow using my wireless card. Could never get it to work. My Blizzard 1230 works fine with it. Maybe the ACA 1231 is not PCMCIA friendly.
