SAM460 (EX, then CR) was sold for nearly 6 years. I can´t call this "discontinued so quickly". |

You don't understand. "So quickly" since there is no new replacement hardware at the moment. _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

| So, is the Tabor 1222 the official replacements for the SAM line of boards?
Any chance any more SAM boards will see the light of day? |

Who knows? Acube isn't selling Tabor boards.
That was kind of confusing when the project was announced.
But they haven't had any real stock of their own in quite a while.
But really, even with my loud complaints about the P1022's f'd up fpu, does it make sense to pay twice as much for an Acube board as an A1222 will cost?
I can rationalize the extra funds for the X5000, its that much more powerful.
But the SAM460 and Tabor are too evenly matched.

Maybe it would have been wise from A-Eon to put some money into a volume production run of Sam460. While the cpu is rather weak this board has some serious advantges over Tabor: - compatible cpu - proven - already supportimg OS4 and MorphOS.
With some money at hand and a volume production run I am sure the price could have get halved.
Tabor will have a faster cpu though, but I bet "something important of my body" that it will take quite some time until everything will get supported and runing fully compatible. With Sam460 these problems wouln't be there.

Sam460 has a few well known flaws so I'm not sure it's a good idea to make more of them. But now when X5000 gets released I'm sure tens or even three digits of used Sam460 will be available to buy if you want one. |

Which flaws are you referring ? For the Sam460ex or Sam460cr ? _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

The onboard SATA II-ports funtionality is one flaw I can come up with. |

Let's see:
Sam460ex: USB problems, like for example having to unplug/plug in keyboard or mouse after boot. Only one SATA-port without DMA support "forcing" you to put a SATA card in the PCI slot. With a card in the PCI slot you effectively block the heatsink/fan on the gfx card which might cause overheating. Allows only a one slot thick PCI Express gfx card if you don't want to block the PCI slot (see above). Risk of overheating problems due to no CPU fan.
Sam460cr: USB problems, like for example having to unplug/plug in keyboard or mouse after boot. As there's no SATA-port onboard you're forced to put a SATA card in the PCI slot. With the SATA card in the PCI slot you effectively block the heatsink/fan on the gfx card which might cause overheating. Allows only a one slot thick PCI Express gfx card.
That's what I can come to think of now. |

Is that an UBOOT or OS4+UBOOT issue? I.e. do Linux or MorphOS have this problem, too? _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

add a pciex16 extender cable.Solves the heat and dual slot card issue. When the Sam460ex was introduced the single slot Radeon HD4650 was the card of choice. Full height cards don't have the heat issue . The USB issue pops up now and again. I have the wireless receiver for my mouse in a front panel USB connector. I just need to unplug it and plug it back in to get the mouse working when it happens.

Any aos4 related hw which have UBOOT have those problems with usb plug/unplug after reboot. I mean its not only related to ACUBE's hw, any with UBOOT have such issues. |
Really? How come then that my Sam440ep-Flex with U-Boot and Amiga OS 4.1 doesn't show any USB related problems? |

Then the Sam460 should've been delivered with that cable. Or the board should've been made with the same number of slots, but with a bigger distance between the PCI-Express and PCI slots.
Luckily I don't have that USB problem on my Sam440ep-Flex.

Using your line of argument then the Sam440ep-flex should have been build with a pciex16 slot.

Placing the x16 slot at the bottom would have made most sense. |
