Nice! However, I don´t get why AROS uses that horrible "crystal" theme by default. Eg. Icaros distribution has much nicer look and even the plain OS3 theme looks better. Visual look is important factor for many users. Other than that well made presentation showing strong sides of AROS, I only miss some "classic" segment (eg. playing more demanding Amiga game in UAE). |

Hi. Thx for the comments. I know the look is quite boring. Did not do much to make that nice in the presentation. I will do something about that in the next video. Regarding the default theme that is in the AROS night builds it is not that important since the night builds are not realy what people should use. We have distributions for that. It was my intention to show some 68k stuff. but I had some problems with the emulator. I will make another video as soon as it is working like I want. I have a lot of other stuff I can show to like MAME etc. Last edited by nikosidis on 17-Dec-2016 at 10:19 AM.

Fastest way to run AROS, anyway. Which IS cheap, as its free.
However, fastest way to run AmigaOS 3.1? That's still WinUAE.
And I'll do it on another NG OS, as it just seems more seemless._________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

The video looks awesome, AspireOS native on PC hardware.
The best way to enjoy the laptop feeling natively.
Would love to do an interview for Blitterwolf with a history of AspireOS and where you plan on taking it, a up to date list of compatible hardware and software.
Your thoughts on AROS distributions, Amiga and MorphOS. I understand they are evolving as individual entities but your thoughts on the subject would be of great interest to many.
for all the hard work you are doing.
Would you also allow me to add a link to the AspireOS website on my https://blitterwolf.blogspot.co.uk/ _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |

Nice demo.
I have never gotten AROS running directly on hardware due to video driver issues. I have been able to run it hosted on Linux, but that takes most of the fun out of it, since the memory footprint is about 100 time as large as it would be with AROS alone. I would like to get AROS running on Tiny Core Linux but have not yet succeeded.
It would be really nice if AROS had a reference system that one could actually buy, i.e. something other than out-of-production and hard to find netbooks.
Update: I decided to download the AROS source code and have a look. I found this page:
http://aros.sourceforge.net/documentation/developers/svn.php
Which has this note:
Quote:
The AROS repository is running on a password protected SVN server, which means that you need to apply for access to it to be able to collaborate in the development. At the request of Amiga Inc., anonymous read-only access to the repository has been disabled. |
What's the deal with that?

Fastest way to run OS3. is still Amithlon, not Winuae. Kinda pointless in mentioning it, but so was bringing up os3 in an AROS thread. |

I would also like to see a reference laptop for aros, but it is Split options about that. It could be possible if we got enough preorders.
You have to ask for access. Just send mail and you will get it. |

bullshit - ;)
fortunatelly you can simpy download the tarball from aros svn
https://trac.aros.org/trac/about
or you can access the source via svn client from your linux setup. download access is unrestricted.
here is allyou need to know to check out and build aros locally on your sytem. but i can guide you through in case of problems:

i agree, its an unecessary stretch. aros is not amiga ;) shouldnt be advertised as such.
but on amiga it is binary compatible;)

| Aros is more amigalike than OS4 ppc. It is just the name. Is it not obious that aros or morphos is Amiga clones. Stick with 68k then. I like a mothern and futureproof Amiga system.
If you Are against aros why do you read aros threads at all. Just stay out and do something positive with your life.

are you talking to me?
Quote:

certainly. in many areas, mostly technical ones. then again there might be some areas where os4 apparently appears to (at lesat some) people to be a valid continuation. such as appearance of the workbench as opposite to wanderer.
Quote:

yes of course. im with you on that. which doesnt impact the fact that neither os4, aros or morphos is "amiga", same as aros is not morphos, morphos isnt os4 and os4 is neither aros nor morphos. i would stick to use correct labels for appropriate subjects, if only to avoid misunderstandings.
Quote:

i do. as of current 68k is as future proof as mos or os4 on ppc or aros on x86 or arm, thet means not at all. nevertheless people are addicted to their options, which is fine. myself, im not particularly interested in aros x86, but im am contributing to it accidentally as im trying to contribute to aros 68k, because of the multiplatform nature of the source. actually im considered an aros apologist around here ; ).

no need to get emotional upon a simple remark. imho everybody here has as much right to post on any subject on whatever platform as anybody else, and people take their freedoms. what concerns doing something positive, i have a vmware player constatntly open in the background, tinkering with aros source trying to fix any issues im able to or report to more skilled contributors.

Thanks for the info, but... I downloaded the source tarball from the nightly builds page and ran wc -l on the first seven directory levels and came up with about 4 million lines of code! Either I'm counting things multiple times, or AROS is a lot bigger than I thought it was. At this point I think I will put down my compiler and slowly back away.
I'm having fun with LFS, so I think I'll stick with that for a while.
Update: I must have been counting things multiple times. I ran
find . -name '*.c' | xargs wc -l
and came up with 870876 lines. That's not so bad. Last edited by bison on 18-Dec-2016 at 08:03 PM.
