Palette colours in workbench

| Im wondering why if i set the workbench screen format to say anything greater than 8 colours eg: 640x512x16 or 32, it only ever shows 8 colours in the workbench palette/prefs.
Note: Was this something that is in amiga 3.5/3.5 workbench (aga).
I wanted to now run my workbench in 32 colours for my background, but because the palette drops to 8 colours this is no good :).? note: also currently im running workbench 3.1, im guessing this is my problem?. Im a little confused with all this, ive never run anything over 3.1 WB sry. |

AmigaOS has a pen sharing system which allows multiple applications to share the same screen but still be able to set their own colors.
The overall result is quite well while for each application the result is a little bit worse than if it could reserve the screen exclusively.
This also applies to the background image. If your screen has 32 colors, you should use a background picture with only 16 or 20 colors, otherwise the quality of the background will be reduced to keep some pens free for sharing.
If you really want to lock out the pen sharing system just to make the background image look better, you can use FullPalette. http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/FullPalette22
