All of a sudden, I cannot open a PDF file by clicking on its icon. "Couldn't open tickbox.gadget v53 or higher!" it tells me. I thought maybe I could open it with AmiPDF, but I get the same complaint.

The odd part is, I can open PDFs that I get in email on Odyssey. So all I have to do to view a PDF is email it to myself. But there should be an easier way.

Somewhere I got the idea that if I installed the newest Enhancer Software, that might solve the problem. That just gets me a new error message:

I was using a new temporary password I had just been sent, so that isn't the problem. Doesn't Odyssey understand how to supply the credentials?

tickbox.gadget is part of AEON's EnhancerSoftware, so you need to copy tickbox.gadget to CLASSES:Gadgets (or reinstall AEON's EnhancerSoftware on your system)

In the meantime you could try VPDF until AmiPDF is working again.

Maybe due to not having MUI5.0-2017R1? I thought I would be up to date all around after installing the upgrade!

Great! "Find" found tickbox.gadget in DH0:Utilities/AMIStore/Downloads/ENSWPLOS4_Downloaded_Files/Version_1.2/enhancersoftware_plus.lha
and putting it in Classes:gadgets allows me to open PDFs again.

But who would have guessed I had the thing already?

VPDF do not need any "tickbox". VPDF is different PDF viewer than APDF. VPDF is faster, lighter, have tabs and co. Its not like you download VPDF, and it will fix your issues with APDF. It is separate and different pdf viewer.

To have VPDF working you need up2date mui downloaded from muidev.de. Then, it will just works, without needs for tickbox or whatever else, just mui.

That's bizarre a third party Reaction gadget would have the same problem as a MUI gadget.

Is you AmiUpdate okay and up to date? MUI should have come up as an update.

All AmiUpdate lists for me are "Third party application updates ..." The log says

I always get a Logon Request when I run AmiUpdate, which I ignore because I can't think of a way to find out what my Username and Password might be. In the past I never noticed that that was a problem.

Anyway, MUI is not listed as one of the 316 things they update. My MUI lists Friday March 24 2017 11:21 AM as the last change. That's about when I got the old SAM back running well enough to install the post-FE update.

Your AmiUpdate is up to date. And forgotton/failed login is a common problem. But one that needs to be resolved to have a fully working and updated system.

What I suggest is to try the login for the Hyperion main site so you can download files. You will need an account on there with a registered copy of OS4.1/FE for your CD serial number.

Or Hyperion forum if you are registered in case the same login was used. Yes they need to be stored away from the computer with an erasable HD so the details aren't lost.

In case you have a backup these details would be in the SYS:System/AmiUpdate/SiteList file.
