| I noticed that the apollo-accelerator.com website no longer lists the A600 version available for pre-order. Does anyone know if they are finished with that model or if it will return?
Thanks!

I don't see it either. Clicking on "Express Interest" only lets you choose "Vampire V500 V2+"

I suppose with Kipper's exit from the enterprise the V600 died with him. As far as I can tell, he was solely responsible for it. |

Every time I post here from my Ipad I get a double post. Is it me? Doesn't happen anywhere else. Last edited by Signman on 18-Jul-2017 at 06:40 PM.

Sadness indeed. I foresee hideous ebay priced auctions on the horizon...

Or they just start mass producing the A600 model. After all, production of something this complicated by hand is primeval. |

| Whilst Vampire boards were initially produced from scratch by hand as the waiting lists grew both Majsta and Kipper switched to batch production using third party manufacturing. Kipper would only add sockets including hand modified PLCC sockets to allow connection to the CPU of the A600 and then program, test and ship the boards. However the final batch of Vampire 600V2 boards kipper received were bad with a very high failure rate. These required extensive testing, fault finding and repair to minimise the losses on the batch (since the manufacturer had no interest in taking responsibility). These are the circumstances as I understand them that led to kipper deciding to discontinue supplying Vampire 600V2 boards.
Majsta is already very busy handling Vampire 500V2+ orders when he would rather be working on other things but the design of the 500 and 600 Vampires belong to Majsta, so If a suitable person(s) can be found to take on the challenge and risks of Vampire 600 supply it can still happen. Whether the 600V2 will ever go back in to production is unclear, however there are plans for a newer version of the Vampire for the A600 so it's a question of wait and see what is announced by the guys working on the project. There are also other Apollo core based accelerator/stand-alone models that the guys want to bring to the market. |

Hmmm... and yet the board itself is clearly on the main page.
Hopefully demand will justify alternative arrangements. The Vampire team really needs to focus on development, not manufacturing and shipping products. |

If you click on the Order button on the main Vampire page, it brings you to this one:
Express Interest Page
The A600 Vampire used to be listed there, it is no longer.

Someone mentioned on the EAB that Majsta intends in taking over production on this. |

On the forums, under Vampire V2 600, there was a question about ordering:
http://forum.apollo-accelerators.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1785
"We've put new orders on hold until we are ready to take over kippa's work"
So, maybe we'll see them again in the future? I hope so as I was about to start looking for a good A600 as the base unit.

Fine, good link but taking on his work does not necessarily mean they'll start soldering by hand again! That would be depressing. They need to design new boards. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

| Makes me wonder if a company like Amigakit or individual computers could get involved with making boards? |

Oh, I doubt hand assembly is ever going to happen again. Jens is not an option, he is a competitor. If you look back in conversations years ago, he is not on board with the Apollo/Majsta's design on making an accelerator. |

Too bad, Jens is an awesome Hardware Designer. Just think where the Amiga would be today if everyone got along? :)

i think its simply the conflict of interests, or how you sustain or leverage or break through the barrier of price/performance ratio. |

Majsta and company should emulate Jens' operation, it's a business first and foremost.
To me their operation is evolving and keeps getting better. Look what they have changed to in a few months with having the manufacturing being sub contracted out and allowing Amigakit and others to sell them.
Hey, get back to playing with your kids. |
