Asus Xonar cards are relatively cheap, available, and put out good sound. |
Do you happen to know if AHI/OS4.1FE supports the USB Xonar card? If so, that could solve the limited sound port problem of the A1222._________________ I sold my SAM460ex lite... waiting for money to buy a Raspberry Pi... or a Classic A1000 with Buffee... or an A1222... and OS4.3 FE update 11 |

I don't think there are any USB audio drivers for OS4 right now. |

But A1222 has true PCIe 16x slot, while Sam460 has only a 4x slot with 16x connector. so transferee rate to graphic card, is slower on Sam460. |
Must be then some special version of P1022 for Aeon then since CPU datasheet says one 4x and two 1x. |

Is €489 the whole computer, or just the motherboard + CPU and OS, VAT excluded? _________________

It's probably just the board + OS4.1+ games included. We will have to wait for the boards to be for sale to be 100% sure. _________________

A1222+ is Mini ITX so is suitable for a wider range SFF cases and is less hassle if you want to fit a full size video card because they'll be no PCI audio storage card getting in the way.
A1222+ supports DDR3 vs the Sam460's DDR2. A1222+ has SATA 2. I'm not sure but the OS4 drivers for PCI cards may be limited to IDE and SATA1. The onboard SATA port is deleted on the 460CR. A1222+ has onboard video which can drive a second screen or if you're not interested in hardware 3D or video decoding you can use a very compact case. The SM502 is deleted on the 460CR.
From what I've heard the A1222+ has better integer performance and code compiled for SPE will beat the Sam460 hands down. The SAM might have the edge in FPU code but that depends on how well the FPU trapping works on the A1222+. The A1222+ also has a second CPU core ready for whenever multi core supports makes it's way into ExecSG.
What the Sam460 has gouing for it most is that you'll be able to have one sat on your desk in January. Pity they didn't do some production runs over the past few years.

My situation is similar as the original posting guy here, so I want an OS4 machine and wait.
I say I will buy both, perform tests and sell one redundant as “merely used”. _________________ Amiga 1200 + WARP 1260 + AmigaOS 3.2 |

| I will say one benefit of Sam board is many USB ports. Standard headers mean you can add up to 5 more ports on top of the 2 already soldered on. Plug in some memory sticks and use the SD card for your core OS, and you don't really need SATA devices at all, and still have enough spare to connect to any extra ports on your choice of case. _________________

You meant to write that A1222+ has DDR3 RAM, right? |

The internal USB ports on the SAM 460 lite were hubs, meaning that I could not use Kryoflux or any other timing sensitive USB device on the SAM. The Kryoflux works on existing A-Eon HW (X1000 & X5000). It is possible the USB on the A1200+ will be standard USB ports instead of being hubs as well. _________________ I sold my SAM460ex lite... waiting for money to buy a Raspberry Pi... or a Classic A1000 with Buffee... or an A1222... and OS4.3 FE update 11 |

Even native SPE FPU in e500 core is slower than 440/460 FPU (at least in lame benchmark - comparable to 800 MHz 460EX). Integer performance is of course faster than SAM. |

That's a very niche need though. And for real realtime you shouldn't be using USB, should use GPIO. _________________
