| Hi all, I hope someone can help me learn how to best set up a computer rack I got, a dell of some sort.
I have some 19inch wide servers, and would like tobhave aliding rails. That doesnt seem to fit, as the rails need space between the case and the rack mounts, which isnt there, the cases fit pretty close to the rack mountings. It doesnt look like the case should set on top or under the rails, so how do sliding things work?
What is best setting between front and rear mounts? came set to 29inch, I see some rail kits for sale say 26inch, some say 20inch but havent seen anything for 29.
Id like to move some things from towers into rack cases, and wonder if there are recommendations for a4000t, x1000, xe, microa1, peg2 or any cases hackable for other classics.
Thank you for any advice! _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

Gee, it must be 30+ years since I installed something in a 19" rack
Are you sure your equipment is meant to be installed on slides? Some bits of kit have mounting ears at the front (they may be removable), some sit in a tray that covers the whole of the rack width, and some sit in brackets on each side of the rack, looking like a tray that has had the middle cut out. Trays and brackets are usually attached at the rear of the rack as well as the front, so they have to be tailored to the depth of the rack (which is not fixed AFAIR).
Slides usually screw onto the sides of the equipment, so that the assembly fits in the width between the uprights. Measuring an old rack here, I see that the width between the uprights is 17¾", and the distance between the holes is 18¼".
