wonder, what entitles them to speak up for "the community" anyway. probably well meant, but a bit lofty and patronizing (imho). the community spoke for themselves on various occasions. the opinions differ from fraction to fraction, but are actually well known. hard to expect the addressed companies were unaware of it.

.. sigh.. what a drama (again) ..

@HyperionHolding

Glad to see AOS4 is continuing development. It's great to see these announcements of it's progress every couple of years.

Well, this isn't a pretty thing at all! Infighting . . . so disappointing . . .
. . .

Good thing I don't need anything from either one . . .

Boycotting isn't an issue . . . they have to have something I want or need to buy that I don't already have . . .

We need Aros for 68k complete soon . . . then this argument would be moot ....!

@klx300r

I gave my gutenprint source to Aeon so no clue there. And as for AOS4 version of Final Writer I haven't found a developer for that version yet sadly.

@terminills

Is other versions of FinalWriter ready/relesed/tested ? Because if no, even to port what you have for now to os4 may have no sense as if it never will be released as some "1.0" release or whatever

wanna see it improve faster, then contribute. everybody is welcome. me, im even a coder, began testing it for toni and jason who poted it and now you will even see a simnple commit i did from time to time.

@terminills

I mean i remember you show me sources, and they looks same way as dopus5 was done (i.e. portable with some works) , so once first release version of FW for aros or morphos will be out, i then can port it to os4. But as porting will be not _that_ easy, it mean it will be good to have at least it already working, to avoid deals like "start porting, and then realise that there need not porting, but lots of bug fixing" :)

But if i remember right its Kalamatee who works on it before and he is disapear now, so, state is unclear in end ?:)

@terminills

Not like Im begging you to, but have you considered taking a more Alpha release attitude, and preface it with a warning "THIS IS WORK IN PROGRESS!", and let people start using it before its "complete"?

I realise that you are probably worried that xyz person will come onto the forums and "OMG FW is horrible. It crashes, buggy etc etc", cause they dont get the whole consept of ALPHA release.

This way you might get constructive feedback too

if it was an open software then we would be able to follow the progress, use it and complain in the open it no matter alpha, beta or release version. but it isnt, and i can understand that tim doesnt want to demand money for delivering of an incomplete product. this has been done often enough. and what would that change, even if he did? i doubt any of us is existencially dependant on an office suite running on some amiga-like system and you hardly would attract newcomers like that.

@Overflow

I'm currently into fw for about I'd say $20,000+ which I will never recover. I would prefer to wait until it's stable before releasing it. So sadly I will stick with "when it's done"

@terminills

Question, how close is the 68K version? If it will run on OS4.1 under the built-in emulation I would be fine with that for the time being.

Thanks,
BCP
