Hello all;
dumb question time again. The IBrowse that is packaged with OS4 will it be a partially disabled version or the full version. If it is a handicaped version will the keyfile or reg code of users who have legal copies of ibrowse on their classic miggies be able to open it and get the functions of IBrowse?
Anyone any ideas on that?

Thanks;

Painter

IBrowse FAQ says:

Quote:

Q: Is the release of IBrowse 2.3 in AmigaOS4 the full version ?

A: No, it's a special OEM version for AmigaOS4 - not as restricted as the demo, but not the full release.

Q: IBrowse 2.3 was announced as being PPC in AmigaOS4, is that true ?

A: No. There appears to have been some confusion with the announcement originally made by Amiga Inc. Stefan never licensed a PPC version of IBrowse 2.3 for AOS4.

Q: So will IBrowse 2.3 be PPC at all ?

A: No. IBrowse 2.3 will be 68K only. There are no plans for a PPC version of 2.3 at this time.

I guess this means one can just download the 68k version and use it with a keyfile...

Correct. The current situation is as follows:

The pre-release of OS4 comes with the demo version of IBrowse 2.3 as the OEM version of 2.4 is not yet available.

IBrowse 2.3 works fine with OS4 bar one small problem with the preferences. I am currently not sure what the situation is regarding this problem (which is fixed in 2.4), but I will try and get a definative answer ASAP.

IBrowse 2.4 is still being worked on, mainly by Oliver as Stefan has been somewhat sidetracked working with various OS4 projects.

IBrowse 2.4 will be released as soon as possible, and the OEM version with OS4 for the final release.

IBrowse 3.0 is being worked on in parallel with IBrowse 2.4, but has also slowed slightly due to Oliver, Stefan and David (Meldon) being focused on other projects.

Oliver and Stefan have both been contributing to the OS4 development and application base (for example, Olivers work with the native dnetc client), so not all the time has been spent on IBrowse. Whilst this isn't ideal, it does reflect the somewhat tiny developer base that has unfortunately become rather common for AmigaOS.

As always, this is the current status that I am aware of, and is subject to change at Stefans discretion.

Hope that clears up a few things.

@Vader

I know 2.3 is 68k only, but will 2.4 be available as PPC? Or will that solely be the domain of 3.0

Also can you give any hints at what's in 2.4?

@Uncharted

2.4 will be 68k only, the big job for IB3.0 was porting it to gcc, so the decision was made to seperate the two branches.

2.4 is mainly a bug fix release, primarily with the crash bugs nailed, some improvements to the JS support and some other fixes. The main new feature is the plugin API, which is also the current delay. The API does work, the flash plugin has been running although it needs updating, but there are some aspects that need addressing with the API still, although I don't know the exact details.

Nope, still waiting for the OS4 prerelease like everyone else (I've got an A1XE-G4 waiting for it to arrive). However, TrueReality isn't very compatible, I'll probably port Mupen64 instead, unless someone already have ported it.

@Vader

This is a very good news, any chance to see a good CSS support for the next version of IBrowse ?

(maybe in 2.4 version )

@Vader

So does this mean that with v 3.0 of Ibrowse we will have a modern web browser on the miggy with Tabs and all the stuff we've come to expect from the likes of FireFox and more?

If you pull this off I'll buy you a beer

@Bobsonsirjonny

It has the best javascript of any of the Amiga browsers, IMHO. I actually rate IBrowse higher than FireFox in terms of general loveliness, but then most of the sites I visit don't look too bad without CSS.

The only time I curse the lack of CSS is visiting one specific messageboard.

Not for IB2.4, but yes for IB3. As I said, 2.4 is really a minor update and the large rework jobs were all postponed for IB3.

So did 2.2 I forget when they were introduced actually, but its in the docs somewhere in the features list iirc. If what I was told is true, the only reason they ended up in Mozilla was because they were seen in an early beta of IBrowse by someone who later became a Mozilla developer. No idea if that was the case or not mind you

Will Ibrowse 3.0 be skinable - cos I wouldnt mind sprucing up the world spinning icon.

I'm guessing 3.0 wont be using MUI?

Not in the sense you mean, but MUI is already configurable enough to change the appearance, and the toolbar images, transfer animation etc can already be changed (its been like that since year dot afaik).

Nope, it'll be staying MUI for the forseeable future.

@Vader

Please, I have two question for you

1 - What it the difference between IBrowse 2.x OEM and the full version ?

2 - Do you imagine that the IBrowse developers will finish IB 3.0 just in time before the final version of AmigaOS4 is released ?

Thanks, if you answer my doubt i promise to offer to you 5 glass of water

There is a demo, not time limited, but functionality limited (cant open more than one window for example) go to IOSPIRIT
