Announcement   Announcement : SB128 AHI/PPC OS4 driver and Mixer utility in beta
posted by rossv on 5-Mar-2004 3:30:24 (7039 reads)
Ross Vumbaca has released his "SB128" AHI/PPC driver for OS4 into beta
testing.

"SB128" is a generic name for the low cost PCI sound cards manufactured
by Creative Labs, and sold under various names, such as:

AudioPCI97
Sound Blaster Vibra
Sound Blaster 128
Sound Blaster 64(V)

These cards are all based around the Ensoniq family of audio chips,
comprised of:

ES1371
ES1373
CT5880
EV1938

The PPC native driver fully supports all the above chips, for playback
or recording at 16 Bit, Stereo, 8 - 48 KHz.

The "SB128" cards sold by Eyetech to AmigaOne purchasers are of the
"EV1938" type.

To add further to the good news, Davy Wentzler has released a Mixer
utility which will be included with OS4.

This fully featured mixer allows you to independently adjust or mute all
the inputs (CD, Video, Aux, Line In, Mic In) and outputs (PCM, Master)
of all OS4 supported sound cards.

The mixer also supports loading and saving of settings (including
automatic loading of settings on startup), and can be conveniently used
as a Workbench Commodity.

Davy is also currently working on support for two more audio cards.

One is a high end 'pro-sumer' card, and the other a professional level
card, to address the need for higher-end cards with digital I/O, by the
more demanding user.

More news on this will follow in the coming weeks.

Your card is called "Live", so it is probably a "SB Live!" derivant, i.e "emu10kx" chip.

If it is an emu10kx chip, then it is already supported.

Regards,

Ross..

You can always buy a C-Media 8738-Based card. Mine was ?19, but you can get them below ?10. They're pretty good, I have one in my Windows box. I have a SoundBlaster Live! in my AmigaOne because the drivers are better on the Amiga

Thanks Ross,

For making this driver for this "early" Early Bird card.

De groetjes, Dirk.

From my A1G3SE with an Eyetech Vibra 128. ;)

Expensive ??? I got my SB Live! for 14 EUR on eBay (including shipping) - though I guess it was a cheap offer. Still it is good to have a wide range of hardware supported, and the SB128 is quite popular I'd say :)

Good news. Thanks Ross and co.

BTW is Ross still working on a linux kernel ? There were some news one or 2 month ago about a new kernel and fixes and also that Ross did not have a machine able to compile anymore so i am wondering if we will ever see 3D HW support and DMA fixes for our Aone (I am not blaming Ross here, what he has done is wonderfull).

Hi Ross,

It's possible to see in the future an audio driver for the AmigaOne AC97 ?

Thanks

Yes, it would be fine if there is a new kernel with the lastest x, y, z fixes. Is there a plan to integrate the AmigaOne specific kernel source code into the new 2.6 kernel tree? I wanted to do this some time ago (transfering the AONE code from the 2.4.22 kernel to the 2.4.23 kernel), but I simply don't have the time anymore to do this huge task... (and not yet so much experience with the Linux kernel)

Ross,

Curious...but why not? I assume there has to be a driver for this out there somewhere else it's pretty useless no?

Because it doesn't work.

If you take a look at the updated specifications of the XE on some sites, you will see that onboard-audio is not a feature of the XE. Additionally, you may find that on newer boards, there is no AC97 Codec chip present either.

Ross..

Is there a list of AmigaOS4 on AmigaOne supported hardware yet?

i.e., a list of supported soundchips, graphics chips (2D), graphics chips (3D), SCSI controllers, etc ...

Yay! Now all they have to do is drop those stupid PS/2 connectors, and it
won't smell as much like a PeeCee.
