Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : AmigaOS4 Snapshots from SDK
   posted by Orgin on 20-Apr-2004 9:43:02 (19030 reads)
Nicolas Mendoza was kind enough to provide us with a few snapshots of the different development tools we'll be able to play with when the AmigaOS 4.0 prerelease CD arrives.

Some of it you might have seen before, but it gives a general feeling of what you can expect once you get the CD in your hands.

Thanks Nicolas Mendoza, you have done a grerat service.

I could even follow most of the code for the "Hello World" requester, it looks like this is the year I learn C. I hope someone gets it together to put some learning C stuff out in PDF, as well as "C on the Amiga for complete Idiots", I'll think I need that one.

But now I have to wait and it just looks so fricken good....

AmigaOS 4.0 looks like a damn fine development environment. Even the new NotePad looks useful.

I'm incredibly jealous of all the programmers who have got their hands on this.

@Nicholas:

Thank you!

There's an icon in there for a file called "os4_libraries_devices.pdf". Would that be the new RKRMs?

I want, I want, I WANT!!!

Looking at screenshot 2, the Grim Reaper requester says "Redzone was not damaged". What's the Redzone?

I've been using NotePad this week to develop some C++ code and it has proven quite useful but also quite painful. I really need a new AmigaOS text editor. Unfortunately, TurboText has some bugs in it that crash when I do a find (on OS3.x I can see MuForce hits) so it has proven less useful than I had hoped.

Seems the market is wide open for an OS4-native text editor at the moment. And no, things like vim and emacs don't count. I'm talking about an AmigaOS text editor like GoldED but that is also OS4 native.

P.S. The native compile speed on my A1 is absolutely wonderful compared with my old A3000T/060 system. Haven't tried any cross compiling--I like to keep it pure
