Software News   Software News : Aweb 3.5.01b available
posted by elwood on 9-Aug-2004 9:38:53 (5977 reads)
CHANGES FROM 3.5 to 3.5.01

One new feature (improved relocation handling) and a few bug fixes have been added since 3.5 beta. Here is a quick overview, see the Changelog at the end of this document for full details.

Click on READ MORE for the rest of the item.

RELOCATION

AWeb relocation handling has been much improved, Temporarily moved urls are now temporary! They
are not cached and a second request to the original url will reload the document. Also the
relocated url is displayed under the name of the destination not the original request
(MSIE and mozilla both do this).

Thses changes mean a that many login systems work smoother without the need to manually refresh
pages. Another example is that the "Continue To Message" link on a yahoo advert now works.

ENFORCER HITS

A few enforcer hit type bug have been cleaned up resulting in improved stabilty.

JAVASCRIPT IMAGE ONERROR

A bug in the javascript Image() objects onerror handling was fixed.

TRANSPARENT GIF ANIMATIONS

The new background image handling did not update the backgrounds of Animated gifs

CHARSET TRANSLATION

Two new charsets ahave been added as an interim fix to the problem of windows characters in
iso-8859-1 documents.

iso-8859-1 translates the extra windows characters from windows-1252 to near equivalents
(as the old compatable mode did, but with a few composite charatcers missing)
windows-1252 translates true windows-1252 docs to iso-8859-1

A more comprehensive charset solution is in the works...

CHARACTER REFERENCES

Character refernces for unicode characters such as ? etc are now supported in all modes
and not just in strict. The ? reference should work now if you have the right fonts.

Sorry, not to announce it before. The beta is 5 days old now.

To avoid hammering Andy's server, you can also get it directly from Sunsite here.

excellent job, indeed

At a first try, it seems faster and more reliable.

I'll try it better.

Ciao

The Makefile for AWeb is not working under linux using a cross compiler, I tyed compile it once,

the error I get is:

Makefile:249: *** Recursive variable `getdeplist_1' references itself (eventually). Stop.

BTW: You should sign up to the aweb-dev@sunsite.dk mailing list if you have compile problems specifically related to AWeb. Bug reports should be posted to our bug database Bugzilla. Last time, we spent a terrible amount of time scooping up people's problems and bug reports from various discussion lists and websites.

We DO need better compiling docs, however. There is an incredibly, tiny, microscopic amount of info in this document, but far from enough on cross compiling. If you have information or experience in this area, which should be added, message/mail me. We want as much documentation available as possible on any AWeb related topic.

You need make 3.81 beta, currenly the only ay to get this is via
gnus cvs at http://savanha.gnu.org/?group=make.

It should be easier to build for linux than for AmigaOS.

Have fun and come along to aweb-dev if you have any luck.

"At a first try, it seems faster and more reliable."

I cannot log into AmigaWorld with this version. It just says incorrect login.
Can anyone else manage this?

Hi

just login with AWeb3.5.01 but i've changed the settings in:

Network settings>Privacy=

"Suppress refereer" . . . DISABLED

"RCF 2109" . . . DISABLED

and

Network settings>Options=

"disk reads"=1 (otherwise sometimes, a reload is required)

Ciao

EDIT- set "Use JavaScript" to Omnivorous also (Browser settings>Options).

Yes, I've had no problems loging in.

You may need to alter your network prefs.

Most login systems require verify always in the cache settings and I find switching
fast response off makes things less confusing during a logon.

Your should make sure that referers are no suppressed.

If you still get problems you may have previously cached redirected urls,
Temporarily moved urls are no longer cached, try using a clean cahed
(set it to T: for a test session [don'tforget to restart AWeb to change the cahe location])

Thanks, that worked. I am logged in now using AWeb
I had started to think the site used SSL for logging on and I don't use MiamiSSL.
Is AmiSSL planned for AWeb?
