hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : AmigaOS 4.0 Replacement CDs
   posted by Rogue on 10-Jan-2005 10:11:17 (6658 reads)
Leuven, Belgium - 10 January, 2005

As a service to our loyal customers without broadband internet, Hyperion Entertainment in collaboration with Soft 3 is now offering all registered Amiga OS 4.0 users the possibility to order a professionally duplicated CD to replace the original Amiga OS 4.0 Developer Pre-release CD which came with your AmigaOne SE or XE.

The new CD not only contains the first Amiga OS 4.0 update and updated SDK which are available for download from our site but also a substantially reworked and updated ?contribution folder?.

MicroA1 customers need not apply as this CD should already be in their possession.

Further details can be found here

I have to send my os4 prerelease cd to some company in Italy?

Too bad, I'm not going through that hassle, sorry.

I sincerely hope that this is not a requirement for the final 4.0 release.

Unless you can pop into your local Swedish dealer and don't need to send him the CD by mail, the hassle is exactly the same.

Is there a list available, if there are a lot more contributions, that alkone would make it worth doing.

@Hyperionmp

So the final 4.0 CD will be sent out using the same method?

@Fraggel

What's the problem? If you try to get a replacement of a CD from any PC company, they expect you to send in the original as well.

Great idea. Will the contribution folders be available for download too?
If yes I can download them, as I do have DSL at home and very fast LAN at work (10-100 MBits/sec)

I think it's better to release the PowerUP / WarpUP version of OS40 CD then releasing the OS40 developer Update 2 CD, 15 Euro is not expensive, just I don?t get it, what I?m going to do whit it, if the shipment takes as long as last time, it most likely is out of date when I get it, I?m waiting for the final version of OS4.0 not the beta 2 CD.

Do we have to send the cd + cdcover with serial nr.?

When i want to pay with paypal, which account do i
have to fill in there, on a not secure site?

@ Dirk-B

You have to send just the cd, not the cover.
About Paypal, just enter the email address where the paypal bill will be sent, not your account detail (yes I know it's a little bit misleading, just modifed the web page).

Ciao

"if the shipment takes as long as last time"

The CD's are pressed and ready to go.

These are the same CD's being delivered to MicroA1 users.

It's a nice service, but I don't want to send away my first cd either, even if I can keep the cover. Sentimental value..

"What's the problem? If you try to get a replacement of a CD from any PC company, they expect you to send in the original as well."

That is a bad comparison, comparing os4 pre-release with software from a pc-company.. Feel kind of disappointed even having read it..

Cool. However, while I see where Hyperion are coming from, I pretty much agree with Fraggel:

Quote:

I kinda think of my original pre-release CD as something of a collectable. Also, while it would be cool to collect a "full set" , there's really no point in going through this procedure now since I have the update1 ISO already, at least not when it's not possible to actually get the full set...

It'll be something to think about if the same approach will be used with the full release CD , if I'll settle for burning the ISO myself and holding on to "the first new PPC Amiga OS4 CD" or if I'll go for "the first official release version of the first new PPC Amiga OS4 CD."

Just a thought, but would it be completely unthinkable to set up an order form on the Hyperion web-site when the finished version is released, that's only available to registered OS4 owners? You know, for us nuts who consider these CD's a big deal...even the outdated ones..
