hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : AmigaOne XE repair service
   posted by GuruMeditation on 28-Jan-2005 19:06:48 (14685 reads)
We are happy to offer an AmigaOne XE repair service for boards with non-functioning USB & DMA/Ethernet.

Before contacting us, please consider the following:

ANY WORK UNDERTAKEN WILL INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY AND WILL BE AT YOUR OWN RISK
WE CANNOT OFFER ANY WARRANTY OR EXTEND AN EXISTING WARRANTY

If you still wish the work to be carried out and you understand that it will be at your risk, then please contact us via email.

Once we have received your request, we shall reply with a booking number. You will then be contacted with a request for you to send us your board. When sending the board, please package it carefully, preferably using the original packaging.

Remember to use anti-static precautions when handling your board. Please use an anti-static bag to put the board in. It is also recommended that heavy heatsink/fan combinations are securely wrapped to avoid movement during transit.

It is always wise to insure your parcel.

If you purchased your board directly from Guru Meditation, only payment for the shipping costs are required.
If you did not buy your board from Guru Meditation, the repair work will cost 30 Euros + Shipping.

The repair work will be carried out by professionals.
Turnaround time is approximately 2 weeks from the day that you send us your board.

DO NOT SEND YOUR BOARD WITHOUT HAVING RECEIVED YOUR BOOKING NUMBER.

In tandem with this, we also have a special offer on the Swiftech heatsink. Buy it at the same time and we'll install it for you at no extra cost.

Yes, well done GuruMeditation, but I was hoping Eyetech would be announcing something like this for UK customers

Is this offer only valid for UK customers or will the European mainland be
covered, too?
As followup to this wuestion, would it be possible to send your docs for
fixing to other dealers by request?

EDIT: Whoops, your swedish
Anyway, same question, plus how long will it take from Germany?

This is valid for the entire world, although the time frame for the fix would have to be adjusted to reflect the distance. However, I suspect this, or a similar offer, will pop up at a few places around the globe in the coming weeks.

From mainland Europe it should take approx 2-3 weeks. It depends a little on the quality of your postal service, I believe the one in Germany is quite good.

That means?
An "inofficial-official" HOWTO from Eyetech has been sent out to dealers/resellers?

Just a guess, you dont have to answer if there's a NDA, but thanks for the info
anyway, i will wait a few weeks more to let my dealer have the time to sort it
out, then i'll eventually get back to you.

@spotUP

I was under the impression you had an SE, though? I'm afraid I can't help you if you do. On the XE, this fixes all the known issues (apart from the onboard sound). This offer is for the XE, and only the XE.

Very interested in the above, have you info on this (pictures etc), I assume it's better than the TT Crystal Orb I have fitted at present?

What would total cost be for fixes plus fit heatsink/fan assembly?

Here is the heatsink in question. It's 349 SEK (27 UKP, 39 EUR).

Thus, getting your board repaired and fitted with a massive (250g) heatsink that is pretty silent (just 18dBa) will cost you ~70 EUR plus shipping. I assure you that this heatsink is capable of cooling down your G4 sufficiently, no matter what model you currently have.

Here's some more information and pictures of it in action.

I guess this must be the one. I'll leave it up to you to convert the price from SEK to GBP

Edit: Oh, well, reflect beat me to it :-}

Best regards,

Niels

Ah, an XE. No, the processor won't matter in the least. You're welcome with your board!

@poweramiga2002

I'm afraid not. The fix requires quite a bit of skill to perform and it's something I strongly recommend to stay clear of as a hobbyist. It's not just some soldering that has to be done. (And the fix is under NDA - I can't hand it out to anyone).

I'd recommend you to wait for a for weeks, a repair shop offering a similar service might turn up a bit closer to you than Sweden.

"ANY WORK UNDERTAKEN WILL INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY AND WILL BE AT YOUR OWN RISK

In other words, Eyetech still doesn't take responsibility for this. Nice.

[Edit: I don't put the responsibility at gurumeditation for this at all, this offer is a good move by gurumeditation. It's just a pity that Eyetech can't seem to bother taking the risk off the customers as they should and instead the dealers have to put the risk onto the customers. If the workshop destroys my A1 I wouldn't even dream of paying Eyetech any more for a new card so that would mean no more Amiga related interest for me, including developing os4depot and AmigaWorld. Until Eyetech takes the responsibility it should I will never buy a single product channeled through them ever again.]

/Björn

Hmm..

Things seem to be moving again.

I wonder when there will be a UK based repair service. Hopefully soon.

So, let me get this straight. XE owners can get a fix, but it's under NDA so they need to pay someone to do it, their warrenty gets trashed in the process, and if their board gets borked during the repair, too bad.

And SE owners get shafted. Again.

I have a few words of advice to Eyetech: apply the 180-degree theory to this issue. Think of what you would do if you wanted to antagonise your customers, make them so frustrated and angry that they refuse to ever buy your products again. Then compare that plan to what you are doing right now.

I suspect the two are rather similar, and whatever way you slice it, that is a very, very bad thing

(no disresepct to GuruMeditation, BTW, this is a problem not of their making)
