Software News   Software News : Stratagus & FreeCNC ported
   posted by Mr_Capehill on 28-Apr-2005 22:52:26 (2392 reads)
Stratagus 2.1 and FreeCNC 0.3 were recently uploaded to OS4Depot. Both are open source real-time strategy game engines.

Stratagus supports games like Invasion - Battle of Survival (included), Wargus (WarCraft 2, needs original datafiles) and Astroseries. WarCraft 2 maps are confirmed to work. Astroseries works but there are some sound related problem.

FreeCNC supports early Command & Conquer games. C&C 1 demo was succesfully tested although some random crashing may happen when exiting. Unfortunately Red Alert demo didn't work (missing files). Anyway, RA isn't yet fully supported.

Stratagus
FreeCNC

Please make sure that you read the instructions before making desperate things after unsuccesful attempt to run a game.

Hmm it wont compile for me. What was done to the source to get it to
compile? I've tried on 68k AOS, MorphOS and MacOS X with no luck at
all. Can I get the modified OS4 sources to give it a shot?

Sure you can get the sources although there a maybe only few lines changed (some path stuff). Better e-mail me about details. Of course it would help if you would specify your compile time problems...

PS. My recompile isn't the CVS version. CVS version needs Boost library (that's not problem), but the current CVS version was a lot buggier than the version I used, which probably was published in last year...

Stratagus ? Great!!! One of the things for OS 4 ports I was waiting for

(Still got a half-finished port of paragui in my unfinished ports folder, which some
day maybe also might make a freelords port possible, but not right now )

Freelords looks nice. Good luck!

I am looking forward also for Battle for Wesnoth and FreeCiv (2.01 now!) to be ported. *whip* *whip*

Wonderful! Bpth are really nice games. I haven't tried FreeCNC yet but its the original is a classic. I play some Stratagus games on my Linux computer somtimes and it works great! Will be neat to have them on my A1...

Tried Warcraft II with it (from a mac CD), the scenarios didn't work while single games did. Guess I would have to get a PC version. Strangely it is slower than it was on my 040 40Mhz A1200 in shapeshifter. What's up with that ;)

(Edit: Before someone asks, yes that's with maximum game speed setting)

I'm sorry, I have forgotten to mention that original DOS version is needed. Hmmm...about speed issues, check if fullscreen helps. If not, bug stratagus team :)

@Mr_Capehill

Oddly enough it identified it correctly as a full Mac CD. But the luck obviously ended there.

Is there a guide/manual anywhere for how to play Battle for Survival?

It seems to run ok on my A1-XE, but I just see a few Engineers. I've told them to mine crystals and titanium, but then an enemy army appears and wipes them out. How do I create soldiers/weapons etc?
