Software News   Software News : New version of avcodec.library released
   posted by Toaks on 16-Sep-2005 11:55:59 (6337 reads)
This new version features an external codec plugin system. External codecs will be used by avcodec.library if they are placed into your LIBS:avcodecs/ directory. Currently only one codec is available and that is a52.library

The new avcodec.library can be found here

An AC3 audio codec a52.library is already available here

More codecs are planned to be released in the near future.

If I use the combination of latest avcodec.library and A52.library when I try and play VOB files I get yellow recoverable alert, one after another.

Other files play fine.

Gone back to a previous release of avcodec.library

What is the version of your a52.library? Be careful, you need at least V51.3 !

@Cap:

Not needed. In avcodec.library's readme i wrote: "Don't forget to execute an "avail flush" command (or do a warmreboot) after any change happens. For example adding or removing an external codec from that
directory."

Ah that has fixed it, I had both a52.library and avcodec.library in Libs:

Next time I'll RTFM

@Toaks

I read the documentation for making the avcodecs drawer in LIBS:, so i did that.

Same as you now

LIBS:avcodecs/a52.library
LIBS:avcodec.library

DVPlayer plays the AC3 audio now that a52.library is in the LIBS:avcodecs drawer
and the main avcodec.library in the LIBS: drawer

I like the idea of a codecs directory and an API to make more of them. Glad to see things should be less argumentative now that a52 is seperated and hopefully a seperate archive to download to help avoid more flamewars. I'll be out of town until Tuesday so I won't be able to register until I get back (will be busy watching the chronometer roll over to 30 years old!) but I will do so as soon as I can. Hopefully it'll be yet another app to test some things I'm working on. If only it was like this from the very beginning then those trolls probably wouldn't have had any argument to give at all, but I'm very happy to hear you guys made it to this.

He may have got it .... but I don't get it!!!!!!@#$(*&(*)*

I have the files in the correct places as per toaks info (confirmed by running Snoopdos to check that nothing has failed and that everything has loaded), I have checked that I have the latest versions of everything - dvplayer(0.44), ahi (6.0), ahi.device(6.2cOS4), emu10k.audio(6.1) but I still can't get AC3 sound out of dvplayer - it starts off in PCM (recognisable but awful), but when I switch to AC3) it turns to beeps, squeaks and static and after a min or so it hangs the machine. The serial port shows ahi.device crashing with 'Access not found in hash or BAT (page fault)' error. The soundblaster card runs fine apart from this. MPlayer works as long as framedrop is on, albeit somewhat jerky, otherwise the sound and picture are quickly out of sync.

Can anyone suggest where I have screwed up?!

Garran

Hi,

Hum... Which version of LHA I have to use... mine can't decompress the avcodec_lib.lha archive.

I have this message:

LhA Freeware Version 2.8
Copyright (c) 1991-94 by Stefan Boberg.
Copyright (c) 1998,1999 by Jim Cooper and David Tritscher.
Copyright (c) 2004 by Sven Ottemann.

Extracting from archive 'bbs:avcodec_lib.lha':
*** Error on file 'COPYING.txt' : Unknown compression (need newer LhA version)
WARNING: Skipping corrupt/extraneous data
1 file extracted, 1 file failed.

Thank you.
