Software News   Software News : The Emperor's New Clothes
   posted by Ami603 on 23-Dec-2005 22:51:53 (4044 reads)
Being close to Xmas, and looking how many new coders are being interested by our plattform, and seeing the lack of ReAction documentation available out there,i've decided to upload the first public Emperor version to OS4Depot, in hope that someone finds it useful to start makingGUI-driven Applications for our machine.
Merry Christmas to everyone and happy coding!!

(Upload should be available soon, as well as some descriptive screenshot)

Besides my work on it, this woudn't been posible without the estimable and great effort of the main coder, Matthias Gietzelt, and the contribution of Gerd Frank (AmiAtlas) who kept the sources and kindly offered to me so that now we can enjoy again this great tool on our AmigaOS4 machines.
Merry Christmas to them specially, and for everyone else as well!!.Happy Coding.

@Ami603

Having flogged through just two SDK examples and been pretty well bemused, I am now surrounded by books on C, ancient Amiga C and RKMs with more place markers than pages. I have even managed to GR a simple window with a working close gadget. Or rather, a non-working close gadget.

Thanks to you the cancellation of Christmas has been rescinded.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Roy Leith

EDIT

PS: Can't get a response from the URL in your message. Perhaps you could stop boiling the sprouts long enough to update OS4Depot. Nah. It can wait 'till next year.

Hmm, the version I downloaded is complaining about a missing dos.library v 39. I have dos.library 51.57.

This sounds very useful! Just the type of programs we need! I am certain I will use this a lot.

How compatible is OS4 code with 3.9 when it comes to Reaction? (Since 3.9 is the best I have right now)

It's very compatible

As you are using OS3.9 I'm curious... are you using Reaction macros? the macros doesn't seem to work for me :-/

I'd like to get the macros working as I would like that the code created with xml2reaction was both compatible with OS4 and OS3 but I can't get to work reaction macros related to object creation like ButtonObject etc... it would help me to keep both generated code and my code simpler

Since I am still learning, I have been coding line by line doing the simplest screens and menus and not using macros. I will be trying out Emperor as soon as I can though. The description says it's great to help teach newbies from the generated code. Sounds like what I need. We'll see what it thinks of 3.9
