Great news. Your AmiKit only gets better and better.

But I have to ask of this:

At the photos from the Pianeta Amiga 2007 show I saw the Amikit 1.4.0 as a CD-ROM, ready to be released. When will it be possible to buy this CD-ROM version of AmiKit 1.4.0 (and in that way donating support to the AmiKit project) ?

I love the new look of AmiKit. The startup screen looks great and so does the new look of Amistart.

Im really considering making a donation now.

Keep up the good work!

Im posting this using iBrowse and AmiKit 1.4.0 btw...

@Stephen_Robinson

If you disable AmiStart it's quite usable, been using most parts of AmiKit on my real Amiga for some time

I've been waiting for the official install pack, suppose it's pretty straight forward to copy the files onto a partition, but never found the time! I've had a whole week off, and I still havn't got around to sorting out my a600!

What sort of specs does Amikit need on a real amiga?

Hi,

I wonder if the KenIcons are Amikit exclusives or if there could be a standalone ion archive? :)

CU,
Mario

The CD version has been sold out. I might print more later.

@amikit

Ok, thanks, did not know about the _2/_3-archives. Last was the k4full (or something), but that had less, eg. no YAM...

CU,
Mario

Had tried to install a previous version on my laptop but without success so decided to deinstall it and try again with 1.4.0, and I'm pleased to say it works - well sort of.

When I click on Run AmiKit is says "Could not find system ROM key file", even though I set it up during installation. If I click on OK I get another message "Could not load system ROM, trying system ROM replacement", and OK to that brings up WinUAE with another message "You need to have a floppy disk (image file) to use the System ROM replacement". I get a similar series of messages if I run WinUAE instead., and both then present me with the WinUAE Properties screen. If I click on Start I get the series of messages again, however if I click on ROM in the side bar it shows the Main ROM file to be the one I selected at installation time and if I click on Start now it all works, without changing anything. Is this a bug?

Furthermore once it is running I am disturbed to find that my CPU runs at 100% the whole time AmiKit is running, and as you might imagine it starts to get a bit warm . It doesn't appear to drop down again until I quit out of AmiKit. Work it may, but I'm not going to have it running at 100% all the time, so for me AmiKit is unusable in its current form.

Has anyone else encountered these issues?

Well, it seems to be a WinUAE bug appearing on certain systems only. Try to move the "ROMs" folder from AmiKit\ to AmiKit\WinUAE\ folder, as suggested in AmiKit FAQ.

This is because all the CPU power in WinUAE settings is assigned to AmiKit. Move the "CPU Idle" slider more to the right to assign less CPU power to the emulation. The slider can be found in WinUAE/CPU settings.

@Amikit

Moving the ROM directory did the trick, and changing the CPU slider actually seemed to make WinUAE run faster in that previously there was a noticeable delay when opening windows but now they open instantly. Thanks for the pointers. I will be demoing the latest version at an Amiga meeting next week so need to check out the rest of the package before then.
