This kinda Leap Frogs DiscreteFX efforts with Alladin 4D, Big time. Or at least raises the bar.

Its Great that Realsoft has not forgot about us. Perhaps a New version of Real 3D for OS4 in the works ? This has always been in the back of my mind, way more likely then support from Newtek.

Will this work on emulated systems ? Feeling kinda nostalgic.

Thanks Realsoft.

@winnetcom

There were plans to bring RealSoft 3D to OS4 some years ago but it fizzled out and I'm not sure that it will happen now.

The reason that Real 3D v3 is now is more by chance than anything.

Several months ago a user on Amiga Org asked Real Soft about the older (v1.x I think) version for Amiga and they said that it was now freeware but they didn't have the disks anymore, but he was welcome to download from the net if he could find it.

From there others got involved in providing the files, hosting and so on.

I wonder if anyone is working on putting the manual into electronic format.

@winnetcom

This is great news, Real 3D is a fantastic program and has a beautiful render engine. Competition is a very good thing.

I was under the impression that Hyperion had
agreed to port some more recent interation of
R3D to OS 4. Perhaps I've got this mixed up, but
wasn't R3D the 1st Amiga 3D package that tried
to implement a rudementory physics engine
(or some kind of collision detection)

Hello,

Few years a back we started co-operation with Hyperion Entertainment concerning the Amiga porting. Anyway project is delayed becuse of their higher priority projects. So unfortunately it seems that Realsoft 3D will not be release in Amiga platforms.

Kind regards,

Not sure if you are all aware, but Imagine for the Amiga is still being developed. Version 6 is supposed to be the next release and, afaik, is available to purchase through regnet. Version 5.17 is the most current release available. If you buy 5.17 it includes an automatic upgrade to v6 when it is released. *I think* :)

However, Aladdin 4D will be developed further, is native and afaik, makes use of 3D acceleration, which of course can make any 3D modeller run much nicer.

On the other hand, Real3D might be better in some ways (iirc, it supports solid shapes instead of (only) polygon based)
And last but not least - it's (now) free!

Just becouse they let people download old, untouched classic amiga version for free? I don't think so.

It works on OS4 here. It opens in a 320x240 window on a fake native 640x480 screen.

It's a bit tricky to set up but you can have it running on Workbench or any Piccasso96 screen.
