Software News   Software News : SAM audio problems resolved
   posted by DaveAE on 6-Jul-2009 19:14:00 (7009 reads)
A couple of days ago I've received a SAM Flex from ACube Systems for debugging and resolving the SAM audio problems. I am pleased to announce that the new driver fixes the most important issues, namely:

* The noise when starting to playback a sound
* General noise issues resulting from the Aux/Video monitoring being turned on by default. You now don't need to run Mixer anymore to prevent these problems.

Read more...

In addition to this, a new Mixer has also been released with ARexx support for the SAM audio and a bug fix that could result in all faders being at 0dB on start-up when no Mixer.prefs was present.

Both cs4281 audio driver (5.4) and Mixer application (1.22) can be downloaded from OS4depot (check the Uploads if they are not there yet).

cs4291 Audio Driver: http://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=driver/audio/cs4281.lha

Mixer: http://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=audio/misc/mixer.lha

Enjoy!

One question:

Is this necessary update also for Sam440EP-Users?

Will it fix the "softreset freezed while playing sound" bug?

If you use the onboard sound, yes.

Yea, that one was annoying with the AC97 A1-XE onboard sound! Has it been fixed for the VIA AC97 too?

Yeah, it works now perfectly! Now i can make a softreset without freezing the whole system.
Works fine in my Sam440ep/667.

Thanks for the good work Rigo!

Will this benefit microA1 users?

The version which AmiUpdate offered me, didn't solve any problems, but I just realized that the os4depot upload is different from the version provided by AmiUpdate.

So, I'll test tonight again

By the way, I really would like to have an updated version of "Mixer" which allowes to turn of the internal pc speaker of the PegasosII! Okay, I'm repeating myself here and those how want to answer: "If you want it, then do it your self!" are most likely right However, with Sam440ep or MorphOS/Linux on PegII, I still have plenty of options

But back to topic:
Great work Dave!

Thanks a lot!

@all
Thanks for the nice comments! :)

@fingus

I didn't do any fix regarding soft-reboot issues on the SAM. Actually, since I saw this reported in the forum thread, I tried to reproduce it, but I couldn't. So, unless you used version 5.0 of the driver, I don't see why it would crash on reboot. Anyway, if it doesn't do that anymore, all the better.

@Deniil715
I'll try the reboot during playback on via ac97 soon, but my guess it that it works on my system. We'll see.
