Announcement   Announcement : New ArosPC - AresOne ; and Cinnamon Writer for AROS
   posted by phoenixkonsole on 18-Nov-2009 21:04:13 (3322 reads)
In the context of the forthcoming publication of the second Aros PC called AresOne (first was the Imica) the author of the text processing application Cinnamon Writer could be animated to try a Aros port. In addition FryingPan will be shortly revised. Momentarily still further developers are looked for, which wants to port their Free or Shareware to AROS. The programs/games are combined into a Compilation named A-live. There is desired also pure Amiga OS applications. A-live will be attached to each sold AROS computer and is to be published also separately as CD-ROM and Downloadversion.

Proceeds are divided among developers involved and shall appreciate their active work (even if it concerns Freeware) for the Amiga/Aros-community.

www.aresone.de

At least 25% of the profit goes back to general AROS-developement (hosting, bounties). Another part goes in Ares related Aros-Projects.

Main difference between the AresOne and the Imica is the form-factor and expandability. For each taste somewhat thereby.

"ArmigaOne", "Cinnamon Writer", "Amitopia", "VincEd", "WookieChat"... these names just keep getting more and more awkward (even to non-native speakers).

Frankly, "ArmigaOne" is quite silly. ARMiga? As in, running on ARM?

IMHO the name "ArmigaOne" is too similar to AmigaOne and might lead to confusion between the two. Also, I have noticed that the website makes no mention of ArmigaOne, instead it mentions AresOne, what it is about?

@Varthall

You're not the only one to think that ArmigaOne was too confusing. That's why it was renamed the AresOne. I think the initial report listed above forgot about the name conflict.

@Thread

Yes this is going to be an ARM-based Aros box.

Pretty lame name(s)...
AROS got some momentum and it really should try to break free from it's Amiga heritage instead of trying to use names close to ones seen in the official commercial AmigaOS.

Good luck with the hardware.

imiga was better name than Armiga...

Anyway ... is Ares something that could be "licenced" for one's AROS compatible x86 HW product?

(sometimes I'm playing with a thought of building a Core2 box, just to show/sell to some potential NG Amigans, it could be AråsPro ... heh ...)

Ok, makes sense, but it's still good that name was dropped. But ARM support is great news, looking forward to this machine!

I agree with that one.

Sorry its my fault! First i have called it ArmigaOne but because of the licence problematic (its too close to AmigaOne) i changed it to AresOne. Ares because my company will be named Ares Computer.

Now to ARM: I had a short email-discussion with Bill from Genesi - but since i'm looking to bring a Tower based and expendable machine the EfikaMX is not interesting for me. I would need a new board .

This doesn't mean that i won't work towards a AROS-machine built from scratch.
I contacted DCE to get the pricing for a prototype of a ATX-Board. My midtime-plan is to create the "missing link" from classic Amiga to the x86-platform.

At first i will release the AresOne which is a Aros-PC(x86) to get a base for boosting aros developement. I hope to get catweasel-support for the AresOne (and AROS in general) until june 2010.

My vision of the "missing-link":
x86 based, aros as main os, aros inside bootrom like www.coreboot.org, catweasel integrated in mainboard layout.

I like Arm but it could be a little to pricey for all of us. Also there will be the EfikaMX.

Perhaps the webmaster could replace ArmigaOne with "AresOne" in the Announcement?

Regards,

Pascal

Please read my last post. it is not based on ARM! Nor am i trying to work against the imica!

Imica = small AresOne=big ; )

Regards,

Pascal (creator of the AresOne - and i say it one more time : it is based on x86 : ) )

@phoenixkonsole
Ah, missed your posts - perhaps I started writing my post before yours appeared. Looks like Samurai_Crow misunderstood things, so I'll edit my previous post.

Indeed, Amiga One was a pretty lame from the start, a parody otherwise..

I don't quite understand, how do you break from an heritage when the OS had born to be an open 1:1 implementation of AmigaOS as possible?
