Software News   Software News : More WarDT datatypes updating
   posted by Templario on 13-Mar-2011 11:35:31 (2956 reads)
Oliver Roberts has updated again his datatypes, this time with date of 11 March 2011 the WarpBMP V45.7 & WarpPSD V45.5 datatypes, previously the 6 March 2011 - WarpTIFF V45.8 datatype.

Again thank Oliver for your work, because I'm a big fan of your datatypes.

Oliver!

It's always nice to see bug fixes.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

As a long time user of the registered Warp data types its nice to see them all being updated.

Dose anyone have any good recommendations for OS4 PPC native files viewer that uses
datatypes and support rescaling images to fit the screen? As it would be nice to get some more use out of these excellent dataypes under OS4 on my sam440.

JPEG2000 datatype is up next - I made one 6 years ago using the Jasper toolkit, but I deemed it unusable as it was so slow. I've now switched to OpenJPEG which is around 20 times faster, but still relatively slow - OpenJPEG is a far from optimal implementation, but I will probably release the datatype anyway and there will be room for tweaks later, or even switching to a better implementation if one crops up.

I personally still use MysticView as an image viewer - it is 68k, but it renders using guigfx and render libraries which you can get in OS4 native versions. Maybe somebody has a better recommendation though.

The title of the news item needs changing unless the datatypes are at war with someone.

BTW. What is the difference between the Warp Datatypes and those alreadyin OS4, I thought Oliver wrote those too, so are they the same or not ?

Would AROS versions be possible? It would be nice to have high-quality datatypes :)

@BillE

See http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=5832 for discussion on that.

I no nothing about AROS, so I wouldn't really know where to start - if there is a cross-compiler that runs on OS4 then maybe it is worth a look, although it is not ideal as I don't have anything to test it on.
