Can we use the live updater with this version as I do not want to re install.

Guess you can, done with tools/LUPD

Edit: How rude of me, thanks Paolo.

Why do ATI/AMD chips get neglected? Also, more wireless chipset support is needed.

@Lou

They do not get neglected we just do not have anybody who wants or has the huge amount of time to write the code.

On wireless, we support one of the USB wireless plugins as well as the atheros chip in a lot of netbooks so I think we are ok there for now.

Maybe you could start a bounty for something specific.

Congratulations. Is this version compatable with my AresOne?

If so, can I simply upgrade the original install? Sorry for the noob questions.

Hi Trevor,

yes it is : )
You may just need to change the network driver(rtl8169.device) in network prefs and choose HDAudio driver in AHI. That's all!

If you may have no sound at first. You need to delete the line "query" in Hdaudio.config (Prefs/Env-Archive) .... this depends on the included Hdaudio driver revision.

Hi Trevor

Time you upgraded all Aros machines I think as Aros is seriously getting good now.

The problem is that I'm using a desktop with a wireless card. It uses a RTL8190 and my laptop uses Broadcom 4321AG. So either way, I am s.o.l.. Atleast my laptop is NVIDIA based but I rarely use it...

You'd think with the recent opening up of ATI/AMD drivers that one would have been written easily.. https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=xf86-video-ati

Thanks, this is news to me. The main issue with ATI is my monitor is 1920x1080 and I can only get 1600x1200 from the native drivers when I specify the size (1920x1080) in the grub.cfg... Going with the defaults, I was getting 1920x1600 and was not able to see the Amistart bar. Atleast my monitor will interpolate to 1600x1200 by stretching horizontally and shrinking vertically. With the native/default 1920x1600, it did not.

However, my bigger issue is wireless drivers. Wireless is where everyone is moving to and thats where the focus on network drivers should be.

I guess what I need is how to configure my own ScreenMode Pref and perhaps Monitor setting...

Does that mean there is no one working on HW acceleration for ATI?? I though I readed somewhere there was a 3D driver in the works?

For me ATI and wireless support are ESSENTIAL to test and then donate, and I am not talking only about me: I think millions of potential users would test Aros too just if this 2 areas are covered.

Anyway: great work BTW and congrats for the excellent work on these last 2 releases!

@ Lou

Open an AMD GPU support bounty in www.power2people.org

There's also Intel GMA 3600 IGP (PowerVR SGX 545) based Atom N2600 netbooks.

I really hate this attitude. Maybe something can be 'essential' to 'use every day', but nothing is 'essential' to 'test'. And there is always something missing more 'essential' to complain about. Instead of complaining, write code. Or donate to bounties. And no, "millions of potential users" WON'T test AROS if these 2 areas will be covered.

@PAOLONE

and I don´t like haters. And YES: There are millions of potential users when the news portals can say Aros covers practically all wintel hardware.

For me (and I think 80% of people) to simply consider an OS, I need it to be QUICK enough in graphic tasks, for many reasons that I think are so obvious that I don´t have to repeat or justify here. The same goes for Wifi (It makes no sense for me to try an OS without internet).

If you can´t understand those reasons: well, sorry for you but I think it is not my problem. Who do you think you are to dictate me what I should or shouldn´t do? What the f**k do you know about me? if you did, you would understand the deep mistake you are making with your words.

It's this kind of attitude that is killing the Amiga community (then some of you get surprised: "we are loosing users! what can be happening, when we are so cool?), and I though it didn´t happen in the Aros community, but well: what should I expect? there is always "that someone special" in every place.

Keep hating and moaning, but don´t bother me.

@vision

Read again both messages of mine and yours. Who's moaning, indeed?

"For me (and I think 80% of people) to simply consider an OS, I need it to be QUICK enough in graphic tasks"

What graphic tasks, exactly? AROS already has the fastes VESA modes amongs any other operating system (both mainstream and "alternative"). Just look how bad behave Windows or Linux when no specific native drivers are installed, and compare it to AROS, you'll be surprised. AROS can't use 3D functions natively on ATI hardware, but many ATI chipsets are already supported in 2D accelerated mode, whilist most Nvidia cards (which are sold about 1:1 to AMD ones, with Intel IGPs on the leading edge) are supported both for 3D and 2D. Do you need ATI cards to "CONSIDER" the project? Well, start coding the drivers by yourself, help anyone willing to do so, open a bounty, do whatever you want, but stop listing here what will make you CONSIDER our OS or not: you're NOT helping anybody doing this.

"Who do you think you are to dictate me what I should or shouldn´t do? What the f**k do you know about me? if you did, you would understand the deep mistake you are making with your words"

So you've got at the "you don't know who I am" point in no-time? Well, again: who's hating and who's moaning?

AROS and Icaros Desktop are FREE projects and they grow up thanks to the direct help of the community, being it just coding, porting software, funding or advertising them. Hence they need beta testing, code-contributing and help-like people, surely not someone that just post here to tell us what are the pre-requisites for them just "testing" our software.

Tsch. "Essential"...
