I have paid the license fee of £28.85 and not even sure if I needed to now! Was very confusing, I am an existing ACube customer with a SAM460 and thought I wouldn't get updated drivers unless I paid the fee. I have a Radeon HD 4650 fitted which currently has good 2D suport but lacks overlay and 3D support, will that be included in OS4.2, just not clear to me!

Or have I wasted £28.85

That's what I expected from a well-known, serious company like ACube, and I am very happy it's happened. Congrats to m3x for having fixed a very silly situation, I hope this didn't cost too much.

I hope the next time a opportunity which might be useful to the whole platform (like Hans Radeon drivers) won't be wasted in a pointless competition.

Why did you think you *needed* any driver updates? Isn't your Radeon HD 4650 working fine with the current drivers?

IMHO these new drivers are mainly so we can use Radeon HD 5xxx & above cards... but those cards are unlikely to perform signficantly better than the 4xxx cards at 2D (since manufacturers stopped bothering about 2D a long time ago now), and the 4xxx cards should already be more than good enough at the kind of 3D we are likely to need.

So IMHO the only reason for the Radeon HD 5xxx & above cards is so that new OS4 machines can be supplied with easily (and cheaply) available graphics cards. Which is only relevant to buyers of new OS4 machines, and all the moaning in the other thread was entirely irrelevant.

Because drivers are always being updated, it's a never ending thing! Yes my Radeon HD 4650 is working fine, but drivers get tweaks that improve them or make them faster, just didn't want to miss out thats all, not complaining at all!
