Internet News   Internet News : IntuitionBase's 'Best of the Amiga' Contest
   posted by eliyahu on 28-Oct-2012 15:05:29 (2553 reads)
At AmiWest 2012 this year a few of us decided that it would be nice if IntuitionBase had a contest to select software that could be considered the 'Best of the Amiga' platform. So that's exactly what we're going to do. Over the next few weeks we'll be polling here and at other sites on what you think the best Amiga software out there is in the following categories, starting this week with the best graphics tools for your NG Amiga:

Week One
* Best Paint Program
* Best Image Editor
* Best 3D Graphics Package

Week Two
* Best Audio Program
* Best Music Tracker
* Best Video Tool

Week Three
* Best Text Editor
* Best Internet Utility
* Best Web Browser
* Best Office Program

Week Four
* Best Role-Playing Game
* Best Platform Game
* Best FPS Game
* Best Original Game

So be on the lookout for the threads here at AWN, get your votes in early, and discuss with fellow Amigans the best programs to run on your next-generation Amiga computer. The nominees will be chosen by IntuitionBase editors from our list of OS3 and OS4-compatible software, but the winners are up to you!

Hey, it's about time we had something fun to fight over for a change!

What about other genres like RTS for games?

Sounds like fun!

Good idea! I'd like to see what users think is the best of each category.

@Chris_Y

posting that one tonight. needed to test real3D first since it was a nominee and with preparing for the storm (we're in the northeastern US), hadn't had time yet to make certain it could run nicely under OS4.1u5 on my SAM and peg2.

@eliyahu

Cool. Stay away from Sandy!

Structured art packages seem to be missing from your genres, and would make an appropriate "fourth category" for the first week (although would probably need to be expanded to include CAD, as I can only think of DrawStudio and MindSpace otherwise).

I've just added OSS 1.03c to your database in preparation for next week, as it was missing (v2 was present but AFAIK that was only ever a demo version)

Where do we vote? Could we have alternatives to vote from?

@alef

first two threads already posted; you can vote on our nominees for best image editor and best paint program currently. i'll post the one on best 3D package tonight once i can try real3D on my NG machines to make certain it works well. have fun, and please comment in the threads on your reasons for choosing what you did!

edit: the thread for voting on the best 3D graphics package is up; make certain to head over, vote, and tell us why!
